Roundup: WDLF (We Divine Like Fen: Morphogenetic Fields)

This round of WDLF, the eighth, expanded to We Divine Like Fen: Morphogenetic Fields. This is the third round I've participated in, and all of them have pushed me in really worthwhile ways, even though there's usually a "team effort" angle to the whole thing that tweaks my typical "I WORK ALOOOONE" attitude.

The way this round worked was that people signed up listing their DNWs and optionally including links to their AO3 bookmarks, works, and/or social media accounts. Assignees used these to psychically divine what kind of work their recipient wanted.

There were 100 signups and 140 works in 105 fandoms.

Authors were revealed when the collection received 600+ comments. That took 9 days.

I was assigned two recips. I added a new fandom to my works — Our Flag Means Death. I also wrote an original story.

I received an original story that was both just what I wanted but also unlike anything I've received before!

What I wrote:

What I received:

comments

Roundup: WDLF Round 6

Round 6 of We Die Like Fen (WDLF) — We're Punished Like Failures, We Deserve Less Fun

It's the second time I've participated in WDLF, and both times it's been a complicated, chaotic-yet-organized delight. I'm not fond of complexity and chaos as a general rule but the way the creators and mods of this challenge pull it off is a marvel to behold.

It would take me all day to explain all the rules of this round. But it boiled down to getting assigned to themed teams, then each team filling a list of anonymized requests.

When the collection was revealed, no one knew who had written what for whom. At that point we went hunting for "our" gifts, and also commenting on fics we liked and asking to be gifted them. Fics could be gifted to multiple people.

After creators were revealed, there was a table that showed who officially wrote what for whom.

I wrote two fics — Lucifer (for Team Only One Bed) and Torchwood (for Team Multiple Orgasms and Too Much Come)

I came away with:
Fourteen gifts that I asked for in comments
Four fics officially written for my requests
(One fic was in both sets)

What I wrote:

What I grabbed:

comments

Roundup: We Die Like Fen

This year is the first I've participated in We Die Like Fen, an exchange that has a reputation for being...chaotic? I think this is the fifth time it has run.

This year there were almost 650 works posted. I thought the works were quite high quality overall.

The way it worked this year was that there were four rounds of signing up and posting, each with different requirements. The first round had a 500 word minimum (or equivalent), and the fourth round had a minimum of four works of 500 words each. Signups had different requirements for each round, too.

The exchange culture encouraged signing up with wacky, iddy freeform tags and specifying "Any Fandom", "Any fandom I've ever requested," and similar for the fandoms. I really like this (although going through all the tags took FOREVER).

I wasn't able to participate in all the rounds because of my meat suit containment failure, but I participated in the last two rounds and wrote almost 9K words in all.

( What I wrote: )

( What I received: )

comments
