It wouldn't surprise me if the heroine is typically closer to mainstream human society than the hero.
Sunshine is really interesting-- to my mind, it isn't a standard romance because the drama comes mostly from external threats rather than internal turmoil. Also, the heroine isn't much more human than the hero.
