In answer to a question via the shower meme, therealjae came up with this definition of "lover." I like it.

a very loose definition of 'lover' that does not necessarily include sex, does not necessarily include romantic love, and does not necessarily include a familial relationship, but weights all three of those to some degree

i'd really like that, if "lover" were a new word. *sigh*. as it is, i don't feel fighting against the perception that it's a euphemism for "we have sex together".

I agree...but I think it can be a good definition of "sweetie" or "*poing*" or [insert your word or phrase of choice], if given along with the word in question.

What I like about the definition isn't what word it's attached to, it's the notion that each of those things gets to be weighted but doesn't have to be definitive. That notion seems difficult for a lot of people to grasp.
