maiden voyage

stop here.
you may enter 
my body's nave.
stand penitent
among the worshippers.
note how the windows
rise to the clerestory.
approach not 
the chancel; 
the altar is used for sacrifices.
this means you.
here the spirit's descent
into lamp light
throws loose shadows
against the faces
of the iconostasis.
the ship sails.
the voices of the choir fade,
the sea sounds are rising.
