Nowadays most cruise lines automatically add a 10% tip to your onboard account, but you can choose to have it removed and pay cash tips individually. Some folks on CruiseCritic.com think that you should give cash tips to some staff on top of the 10%. We did that sometimes.
We didn't see anyone ordering multiple dinners, and most of the portions were smallish. In the environmental lecture, they said the leftover food was ground up and released into the sea (when cruising at a certain distance off shore); I guess there are worse ways to deal with food waste than to turn it into fish food.
I would have liked to do the kitchen tour but it happened earlier in the morning than I wanted to deal with, and the OH said he saw people lining up for it and it was very crowded.
