Saturday
Went to the wedding & reception of my friends S and K, who are part of a quad. Delightful and sweet. The brides wore white (K wore a vest and pants, S wore a corset and lace skirt) and cried a lot. The mastiff performed Best Dog duties. The husbands K and T held the rings and one of them helped their daughter, R, read the invocation to the West.

Friday
The OH had his 1-year cochlear implant checkup. Hard to believe it's been a whole year. It looks like the new software, which he was a "beta tester" for in September, and which helped him hear better in crowds, will be out within several months, for real this time. (A year ago, we were also being told "several months.") He could well hear better than me in crowds at that point.

Watched The Shawshank Redemption in the evening. I finished another crochet square.

Thursday
Came back from my "retreat." They came and took away my auto-PAP. They'll supposedly download some info from it and then issue me a C-PAP.

Wednesday
Day two of my retreat. Was very sleepy all morning, but perked up in the afternoon. Visited the SF SPCA, which is where I adopted Selkie almost exactly 12 years ago. They have moved and have a much bigger and fancier facility now. They seem to specialize in shy and difficult cats.

In the evening, I did quite a lot of writing and plotting.

Tuesday
Day one of my retreat. Walked around Fisherman's Wharf and Ghirardelli Square, wrote some poetry, reorganized my beading supplies.

Monday
The OH and I watched Blade 2 in the morning.

In the evening, started a three day "retreat." I know, it might seem odd to go to Fisherman's Wharf for a retreat, but the point was not so much to be cut off from all people/activities, but to have several days where I didn't have to interact with people if I didn't want to.

I loved it. It did me a world of good.

Sounds like a good productive week. The retreat sounds wonderful - sounds like a wonderful chance to recharge and relax.

I'm a loner at heart, so I understand the need for alone time. I'm getting more of it lately, in a good way.

Shawshank Redemption is possibly my favorite movie. How did you like it? (It's okay if you didn't!)

I liked it quite a bit. The only thing I didn't care for was that I could predict the plotline more easily than I like.

But I think it's going to stick with me. Does that happen with you - when you see a movie, you maybe didn't like it all that much, but a week or month or year later you are still thinking about it? (About Schmidt is doing that too me lately.)

Why is it one of your favorites? How does it speak to you?

_Kiss of the Spider Woman_. I would have walked out if I hadn't come with someone. But I've never been able to forget it, either, and I really like it, now.

Blade 2!??!?? Blade *2*??!??? No. No. NO!! (I really wanted to put a hit out on the reviewer who said it was good like Blade. Barf-aroni.)

_Wings of Desire_ for me. Now my favorite movie.

I liked Blade 2. I'm a sucker for movies that combine Hong Kong and Hollywood style action. But it's certainly not good like Blade. It's an entirely different genre.

I like it because it's about overcoming adversity. About knowing parts of the world are just awful, but living through it and finding yourself on the other side.

Certainly it was predictable for me the *second* time I saw it. Things mean a bit more when you see it the second time. (Such as the warden's line at the end of the inspection, "Redemption lies withing.")

Yes, it plays on your emotions. Yes, it's predictable. But it's done in a way I currently welcome.

I agree it portrays that really well - several ways of living through it, and several ways of not living through it.
