You know you've been poly a long time when...

...you watch Ladyhawke and you keep thinking, "Well, that's interesting. Usually communicating with your lover through a third party is a bad idea, but in this case, it seems downright necessary."

What other thoughts tell you you've been poly for a long time?

(xposted to [livejournal.com profile] polyamory...they seemed to need some levity over there)

Levity or...

Well for one person in particular, for the last post with 122 comments, a clue by 4 might work better.

Sorry just hear that same whine from the same person before.

(Note: hope I am not stepping on feet with that comment).

...you get your lovers' names mixed up and they don't even blink.

David, Doug.. oh, whoever you are..

[livejournal.com profile] kshandra got me and [livejournal.com profile] dafydd name tags that read (for me) NOT DAVID and (for him) NOT DOUG.

*chuckle* Nice...

Then again, I just like name tags. ;)

... your poly relationship not only predates the newgrouping of alt.polyamory but the Great Renaming as well....

Hey! No fair making me chortle extremely loudly in the library!

Heavens, no! I'm not that old!

hahahaha! I heard about her and some other woman having a bit of a disagreement about who created the term "polyamory".

As if it didn't exist previous to the term?

Pray tell... what was/is the Great Renaming?

...when someone says "I've been poly all my life", and you snicker at the thought of them toddling around in diapers, planning their perfect V before they were even verbal.

...when people who recently announced via a newsgroup, discussion board, email list or "community" that they "have been poly all their life" start giving (crappy) advice online to people who have just announced they "have been poly all their life".

...when you only visit "communities" like [livejournal.com profile] polyamory because someone on your LJ "friends" list has mentioned or linked to a post.

...when you sit back and laugh at people who start pulling rank: "Well, I've been polyamorous for 20 years." "Oh, that's nothing... I was a polyamorous high priestess in Atlantis", etc...

...when you wish there was a community for people who really have been polyamorous for quite some time, who don't rehash lots of basic 101 type questions ad nauseum.

When you're trying to explain to your 9 year old son that Kobe and his wife had a rule that they weren't allowed to have sex with other people.

here's your chance to tell the true story of zie/zir and disspell all the false creation myths (scroll down a couple of replies; the thread doesn't exactly drift, but falls off a cliff and lands in the river 300 ft below):
