The surfing continues

I had a pair of these magnetic Scottie dogs when I was a kid, but I had no idea they were a powerful love charm.

They were always in the vending machines in the bathrooms at rest stops. I think that must have been along the Garden State Parkway or somewhere similar on I-95; those rest stops are pretty distinctive. It didn't strike me as odd as a kid that wonderful, fascinating items were for sale in a bathroom.

I think I convinced my mom to buy me a set from one of these vending machines. I know I had a set for a little while. I wonder what happened to it? They didn't bring me true love, but there was a magic to the feeling of pushing them together in the "repulsed" orientation that lives on to this day as a sense memory in my hands.
