new cat!

Our new cat arrived and is on her way to making herself at home. She is still too skittish for me to make really good photos of her, but here are a few that turned out OK.

She took to the local "kitty condo" right away. You probably can't tell, but she has blue eyes.

She is spending lots of time looking out the window.

Here she is using one of her scratching posts. (Good kitty!)

I got her from a friend of mine who adopted her from the animal shelter we both volunteer at, but she couldn't keep her because her husband's cat allergy got a lot worse recently. My friend named her Tillie, after the "air plant," Tillandsia, because when she first arrived, she didn't eat much. But now, as you can see, she eats a lot. So we're going to rename her. We haven't come up with any names we're thrilled with. (I'm calling her "Hello Hello," but I expect the OH won't let me get away with that. :-) Suggestions are welcome!

Wow, pretty!

I think Tillie's still a nice name, even if it doesn't mean Tillandsia anymore.

We kept "DJ," even though it no longer means the "Danielle Junior" it did when she came to us. :)

Hello, kitty!

*waves*

I'm sure you'll be happy with [livejournal.com profile] firecat.

Oh, that first picture is remarkably gorgeous. What a pretty kitty! :)

[identity profile] rmjwell.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 09:27 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with [livejournal.com profile] elynne: that first shot is gorgeous.

Do you have any traditions, schemas, whatever, you keep to as regards the naming of cats or is it "just what seems appropos for the cat?"

Camo kitty!

she's purtiful!

[identity profile] porcinea.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
She's beautiful!!

[identity profile] kyubi.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh--pretty kitty! And even if she's not Tillandsia-class any more, she's nowhere near as plumptious as the Velcronian.

And I still like "~" as a name...

[identity profile] zyxwvut.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
As a gestalt, youse guys's cats have the *best* names (well,
at least the most recent two).

Z

P.S.: Yes, a ::me too:: on the purtiness and all.

[identity profile] red-frog.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
She's gorgeous. Reminds me of mocha ice cream.

(If you don't want to call her Tillie anymore, how's "Mocha"?)

[identity profile] kalmn.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 10:51 am (UTC)(link)
i think that she does look like a tillie. possibly also like an ellie.

What a beautiful and lucky girl!

Name suggestions from a translation site ...

Since she lives at the Cat & Dragon

Brujah - female informal translation for dragon in
Spainish ...
Kaz! - Yiddish translation for cat

the kitty is beautiful! and i am a pendantic!

[identity profile] nex0s.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
AFAIK (and i'm not an expert, that's true) "bruja" is the feminine form for "sorceror" (the masculine being "brujo") which is how i've always heard it used.

my spanish-english pocket dictionary from Collins says that the spanish word for "dragon" is "dragòn".

n.

The web translator site gave both
translations for dragon.

Great Ghu, she's wearing camo paint!

[identity profile] lysana.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
(I'm calling her "Hello Hello," but I expect the OH won't let me get away with that. :-)

Can't say I blame him. ;)

As for suggestions, I'm vaguely confused as to why "Tillie" can't stand alone.

[identity profile] kightp.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, my, she's handsome!

[identity profile] wispfox.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Wow!

Gorgeous kitty!

My cat's name isn't actually what I tend to call him. Of course, I also tend to be bad at naming things (he already had a name). So, I'm not going to even suggest anything, because anything I suggest is going to be silly, and not a serious suggestion! :)

[identity profile] caprine.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Name suggestions based on her appearance:

Rohrschach
Camo
Jackson or Pollock
Neapolitan
Agate
Mosaic
Dapple
Cowrie

She's beautiful! I think she looks like a Tillie, too.

[identity profile] circumspectly.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
ooh! what an *unusually* colored kitty! ::loves:: mixture of calico and siamese, maybe?

::grin::...looks like a fun kitty, too.

wow, what a uniquely pretty cat.

i usually go with "catface" or something like that until the cat names zirself, so i am not gonna be much help with the naming. except that i don't like "tillie" at all for her, and i think "hello hello" rocks. :)

*stares at the pictures for a while, pondering*.

maybe i'd name her "chiaroscuro" if she were ok with that.

[identity profile] dandelion-diva.livejournal.com 2003-09-02 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, she's *beautiful*. I love her coloring.

You could always name her "Miao", so that she could introduce herself...*grin*

Of course, that'll probably backfire. When I was about six, I was gifted with a cockatiel that we named "Ima Bird", so that when he learned to speak, people would ask his name and he'd say "Ima bird". Except that he was the strong silent type and never said a word.

He could whistle the theme song to Good Morning America and the very beginning of "Can't Smile Without You". :)

Gessi

a more serious suggestion

Her markings remind me of picture jasper. "Jasper" might be one possibility (fie on gender-appropriateness!). " Owyhee (http://www.minerals-n-more.com/Owyhee_Info.html)," which is one variety of picture jasper, could be another possibility.

So so pretty!

new cat!

She's beautiful!! How about naming her Sundae? The dark brown marking on her face looks like dripping hot fudge to me. :)

She looks like a sweetie. Can't wait to meet her in person!
