My new camera arrived! It's a Pentax Optio S4. In Colorado Springs, I saw tedesson take one out of an Altoids tin and I was hooked. I'm upgrading from a floppy-based Sony Mavica with less than 1 megapixel, so this is quite a change.

My megapixel basic digicam took a fall in the dust a couple months ago and was replaced with a new model that restores the ability to do all that creative photography stuff I used to love doing in my early 20s, not to mention it can image a dancer's bindi at 10 yards. Now K and I are reserving it for weekend events while I'm away from home. "I want the camera for my hiking plans" I say, and "I want the camera for my camping trip" she says. Clearly it's going to have to fly back and forth across the country, insured.

Work issued me a cell phone during my travel that has a small digicam in it so I've been using that to show K what I'm up to. It goes a long way to keeping the cross-coast gap bridged and our relationship immediate.

The voice memo made me giggle. ;) Our friends kristnaskelfir and svala_lj have a Pentiax Optio -- I'm not sure which S number. We have massive camera envy. Our primary one is a 3.2 MP model and takes very nice photos, but it's HUGE and heavy and bulky and inconvenient. okoshun just bought a new one that's smaller and lighter, but I don't like the way the pictures come out that much (it was a really cheap model).
