I ordered Surfing with the Alien, Strange Beautiful Music, Live in San Francisco, and The Extremist.
I've only actually ever heard a couple of Satriani pieces. The first time I heard one ("Devil's Slide" from Live in San Francisco), I immediately went to iTunes and bought it. Yesterday on the way to the pool I heard another one - "Circles" I think. I had the same "MUST HAVE" reaction so I figured I should investigate further.
Oh, definitely worth investigating. If you've got something with Crush of Love on it (possibly Live in San Francisco does), I'd be interested in what you think of it. It's the piece that got me acquainted with Satriani and it still puts me in incredible head space when I hear it (though I prefer the studio recording on (short) album Dreaming #11, to any of the live recordings I've heard.)
If I were a fangirl sort of person, I'd be a Satriani fangirl. Instead I just get all excited when I think about his music, and have a "wow" appreciation of it whenever it occurs to me to listen to it.

Yes, "wow" is pretty much my reaction. And "wow"s over new music get more and more rare as I get older, so it's a special thing.
