a good blog

I started reading the blog Granny Gets a Vibrator a few weeks ago because it had some good discussions of race issues.

Recently the blogger, Liz, developed a health problem that led to a possible cancer diagnosis. She has no health insurance, so since then she has been battling her way through the nightmare of the public hospital bureaucracy trying to get a diagnosis and the proper treatment.

I'm really sad that this is happening. But she is writing about it absolutely
brilliantly and anyone with the slightest interest should go read her blog. It's syndicated here as [livejournal.com profile] grannyvibe.

I used to read her irregularly; thanks for bringing this to my attention. Yes, it's sad, brilliant stuff.

How'd you guys stumble across her? I knew her from the Well.

Oh dear, I've often worried when I've been without health insurance that I'd be diagnosed with cancer then.

I have decent insurance now, and I am going to make sure I can make the COBRA payments should I lose my job. Unfortunately, COBRA only lasts 18 months, and people are often unemployed for longer.

*sigh* National health insurance, anybody?
