It's mystery mercerized cotton yarn I got in a swap. I got about 5 or 6 pounds of the stuff. I used up most of the varigated yarn (DK weight) but I still have a couple pounds at least of the purple and a couple pounds of lavender (both fingering weight).
Thanks for posting more pictures -- I like! The design and colors look good, and look good on you. Agreed about the fit; please post more pictures after any side-panel re-do, because that whole sleeve setting thing still confounds me.
Very nice, and congratulations! I'm still too scared to try to knit myself a sweater-between fit issues, getting bored easily, and fear of spending that much money on yarn and that much time on knitting, and then not liking the result.
I get into pissed-off moods at any long-term creative project I do. For some reason when the project is yarncraft I keep going out of sheer bloody-mindedness. I wish I could transfer that to my creative writing.
I like it, even though it's loose (I don't have any all blue tie-dye tops). I hadn't realized you meant the sleeves were worked out from the side panel before. That's definitely an easy way of doing it, compared to setting in sleeves!
Thanks! The original Ample Knitters group is dead, but there is a replacement yahoo group. Some of us did this sweater there as a "knit-along" project.
oh, i really like the geometrics. i'd be tempted to try and do something like that with an asymmetric centre.
also, comfy loose fit, always one of my personal favourites (i really wish i could get away with wearing heian clothing right now, since i am totally in love with that *heh*).
yay, preseverance! well done! it's been a while since i finished something that large, and i didn't even like that bloody cardigan i made then -- oh well, the cats like it.
I would call Heian clothing past "comfy loose fit" and into "need engineering degree to figure out how to keep it on". :)
Do you know about the Woolly Thoughts web site? They use knitting to demonstrate various math principles. They also have a book about making garments out of geometric blocks, No Pattern Knits.
Also Unexpected Knitting by Debbie New - labyrinth knitting! cellular automaton knitting!
I did set-in sleeves on one of the baby sweaters I made. I discovered that my seaming skills aren't quite up to it; while I can sew a straight seam okay, the rounded sleeve is a little bunchy and lumpy. It feels like the sort of thing that'll get easier with practice, though.
I, too, will be making a sweater in the round complete with sleeve caps as my next project (current project, actually; I've been doing a couple of rows a day on Big Girl Knits' Bombshell, and I'm three rows away from the first "take it off the needles and try it on" point. I'm very excited.)
*heh*. just a few ties. i am really tempted to make some; i have collected patterns.
the debbie new book is on my list, but no, i hadn't seen that site yet -- thanks! the dragon curves in crochet, that looks like something spiffy to experiment with (i've done fibonacci and chromatic scale projects; those are easy to come up with). i also like the 3D blocks.
i wonder if i could marry those with domino knitting (http://www.viv.dk/English/default.htm).

I see what you mean about the fit, but I think it's nicely executed.
