Violent, fat-hating Kaiser billboard is gone

I was told about this earlier in the month but I just confirmed it for myself so I thought I'd mention it. The "Beat Obesity With a Stick" Kaiser billboard that I posted about at the end of September is no longer there (Hwy 101 south, just south of San Francisco). There is a new Kaiser billboard in the same location.

The person I discussed this with and I figured that Kaiser had already planned to swap the billboard out at the beginning of October. But it is possible that protests had some effect. Thanks to the folks who wrote in to Kaiser about it.

What's the new one say? And have you seen the TV ad to "When I Grow Up, I Want To Be An Old Woman"?

The new one says something like "Increase your laugh expectancy."

I haven't seen the TV ad. Is it using Michelle Shocked's song?

Yes, it is. And the ad turns out to be on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOcIWo6Hdfg). I like it.

As to the laugh expectancy, Kaiser does recorded messages for those of us with specific diseases and asks if we're taking our meds, if our doctors talk to us, etc., and at the end, they always say "Be sure to get your humor time!" Or something very similar.

That's a great ad. Although I couldn't help thinking that at least some Kaiser doctors would probably recommend weight loss surgery to some of the women pictured.

I dunno. I can't have bariatric surgery, but none of my doctors ever mention my weight. I do think I'll weigh more on Monday than 10 days ago because the kidney labs came back today and they're worse than they've been in a while. My weight seems to track with them.

Thanks for the follow up. I wrote to them, and I'm hoping even if it didn't make a different for this switch that it will at least help them see the error in encouraging violence.
