Wolverine movie

X-Men Origins: Wolverine vs. my expectations:

Hugh Jackman drool expectations: Exceeded

Pointy object fu and things blowing up expectations: Met

Plot making enough sense while the movie lasted expectations: Exceeded (but my expectations were pretty low)

Plot elements not making sense five minutes after the movie was over expectations: Met

Racism & sexism expectations: Pretty much as expected

Totally gratuitous use of a fat suit: Unexpected. Ewwwwwww.

The OH has read the Wolverine origin stories and said they changed a bunch of things in ways he didn't like. I haven't read all the Wolverine origin stories and there was only one thing I knew they had changed.

Credits and post-credits easter egg expectations: Exceeded

ETA: Spoilers in comments

I was disappointed and extremely upset at the fat suit scene. Like way more upset than I thought I'd be when I thought about it later.

Um. Spoilers, please? (I'm thinking about having a brain-dead double-feature this Sunday in lieu of church, but if the fat suit scene is that gratuitous I may just make it a single-feature despite my love for Wolverine, Hugh Jackman, and Liev Schriber.)

I hated that scene with The Blob, especially the gratuitous reference to "an eating disorder." Full disclosure: I don't follow the comics at all & know nothing other than what I've seen in the X-Men movies. But the impression I got from looking at Blob comic art online was that he had more of a character role than what he got in the film.

I read "X-Men Origins" as "X-Men Orgies." This is, after all, Hugh Jackman.

Which is a damn shame, really, which idiot gave Mr Jackman clothes again. *sad face*

The fat suit stuff - totally came out of nowhere at me and ... I was stunned by its horribleness really. I just didn't know what to do with it. I'm sort of happier that it was at least slightly canon, but even so, the way it was handled was un-good.

True I suppose. And I did like the leather jacket look he had going for a while.

But still, I couldn't help but be a little bit disappointed.

*laugh*
Though as I wasn't actually expecting any Hugh Jackman nudity before I went to the cinema I think my expectations may have been exceeded (but appetite frustrated?)

It's called "Fridge Logic" -- after the show, when you're standing at the fridge door looking for a snack, plot points that make no sense suddenly occur to you.

I love this site. You can get lost for hours following the links.

Heh.

I'm sure all of these are listed on the Tropes pages somewhere, they are *exhaustively* comprehensive, not to mention hilariously creative in their trope-naming.

But! I can disprove this trope: May-December Archeologists.

The movie/TV series Stargate had the young Daniel Jackson and the old Catherine Langford (who started out as the Beautiful Young Daughter, but still...)

Even great, wonderful movies have Fridge Logic: as he was dying all alone, completely abandoned in his giant house, how the heck did anyone know that Charles Foster Kane's last word was "Rosebud"?

Why the heck would the Nazis even CARE about "letters of transit", anyway? I mean, there's no such thing as a magical "Get Out Of Nazi Clutches Free" card. If Rick hadn't shot Major Strasser, what would have prevented Strasser from just getting his goons to shoot Victor, Rick, and Ilsa, even WITH the letters of transit? And since he DID shoot Major Strasser, why did they need the letters, in the first place?
