Wolverine movie

X-Men Origins: Wolverine vs. my expectations:

Hugh Jackman drool expectations: Exceeded

Pointy object fu and things blowing up expectations: Met

Plot making enough sense while the movie lasted expectations: Exceeded (but my expectations were pretty low)

Plot elements not making sense five minutes after the movie was over expectations: Met

Racism & sexism expectations: Pretty much as expected

Totally gratuitous use of a fat suit: Unexpected. Ewwwwwww.

The OH has read the Wolverine origin stories and said they changed a bunch of things in ways he didn't like. I haven't read all the Wolverine origin stories and there was only one thing I knew they had changed.

Credits and post-credits easter egg expectations: Exceeded

There is a character in the X-Men called The Blob. The OH says that in the comic books his size is part of his mutation. I didn't know this before I went to the movie.

In the movie he is initially presented as regular sized but is later in a massive fat suit and is explained as having developed an eating disorder because of some trauma he suffered.

The fat hatred appears in one or two scenes lasting a total of about five minutes. It wouldn't have bothered me quite as much if I'd known it was coming.

*sigh* My sanity watchers points would go right out the window. No amount of Hugh Jackman can make up for that, alas. (Though Hugh makes up for a lot.)

I kind of wish I could produce a copy of the movie that has the whole scene removed and replaced with a title card that says "WOLVERINE FINDS OUT WHERE TO GO NEXT". (The scene is only there so that Wolverine can find out that one piece of information.)

Gahh, even worse, it's a silly, pointless scene! *eyes roll* I think for certain now that this will be a DVD movie, watched with a hand on the remote.
