e-books and bookstores

Kristine Kathryn Rusch suspects that several big publishers are seriously underreporting e-book sales on their authors' royalty statements, and probably print book sales as well.

A Different Light, gay bookstore in the Castro neighborhood of San Francisco, is closing.

I want to support my local non-chain bookstore, and I want to limit the number of physical books I buy. My bookstore offers e-books through Google Books, and I bought one. The iPod interface for Google Books leaves something to be desired though. The biggest PITA is that there's no bookmark feature.

That's really surprising about the lack of bookmarking. Weird!

Lack of orientation lock irritates me more than lack of bookmark feature. If you can import your google books into ibooks, you can bookmark but not lock orientation. Neither can be that hard to implement. I hate that kindle reader is still the best experience.

No orientation lock on stanza that I can find (or bluefire, either). Maybe I'm too dense to find it - can you tell me where it lives?

Thank you, this has me very excited and now I must move all my books on all my non-kindle readers (don't laugh) to stanza. Wow.

Wtf A Different Light closing? I'm startled. And dismayed. And 3,000 miles away, but it still /matters/.

User [livejournal.com profile] moominmuppet referenced to your post from Linketies and life (http://moominmuppet.livejournal.com/1560144.html) saying: [...] found it especially interesting (it's not new info, but it's well-presented) e-books and bookstores [...]

If Kris Rusch said that the sun rises in the east, I'd get a compass and check it myself.
