I would call Heian clothing past "comfy loose fit" and into "need engineering degree to figure out how to keep it on". :)

Do you know about the Woolly Thoughts web site? They use knitting to demonstrate various math principles. They also have a book about making garments out of geometric blocks, No Pattern Knits.

Also Unexpected Knitting by Debbie New - labyrinth knitting! cellular automaton knitting!

*heh*. just a few ties. i am really tempted to make some; i have collected patterns.

the debbie new book is on my list, but no, i hadn't seen that site yet -- thanks! the dragon curves in crochet, that looks like something spiffy to experiment with (i've done fibonacci and chromatic scale projects; those are easy to come up with). i also like the 3D blocks.

i wonder if i could marry those with domino knitting (http://www.viv.dk/English/default.htm).

If you get No Pattern Knits you won't need to get Domino Knitting. Another book along the same lines is Module Magic by Ginger Luters.
