Pothos Pole Project Progress

In the pothos project, where I discovered that the houseplant pothos can get a lot bigger than it normally is if you give it something to climb, I selected a (free) pothos a tenant had left behind, built it a moss pole, and pinned it to the moss pole to see if I could get it to climb that moss pole.

And how is that going? )

Fandom: 陈情令 | The Untamed
Pairings/Characters: Jiang Cheng & Wei Wuxian & Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng/Nie Huaisang (background), Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji (background), Lan Xichen, Jin Zixuan, Meng Yao, Wen Zhuliu
Rating: R for Graphic Depictions of Violence and Major Character Death
Length: 133,987 words
Creator Link: [archiveofourown.org profile] meyari
Themes: Siblings, Time Travel Fix-It, Women Being Awesome, Trauma & Recovery

Summary: As the Jianghu collapses around Jiang Cheng's ears, his borrowed core begins to fail. Wei Wuxian has one final trick up his sleeve, though the only person who can use it is the one person who has no core of his own: Jiang Cheng. Time travel may be impossible for everyone else, but Jiang Cheng has one slender, delicate chance to save the entire world. Of course he has to take it no matter what the cost might be.

Reccer's Notes: As soon as I saw this month's theme, I thought of this story. While time travel fix-its and core reveal fix-its are both common in the fandom, this story handles both tropes in ways I haven't seen any other story do. It also features amazing original characters, including several badass women of the Meishan Yu sect, and gives Jiang Yanli one of the best storylines I've ever seen. The rating is because there's still a war, and some characters still die, but it's a far different war, and they are far different deaths.

I do feel like I have to provide a caveat that this could use a serious line edit, by which I mean there is a grammatical or spelling error in nearly every sentence. It really says something that, despite this, I couldn't put the story down, and devoured all 100K+ words of it in the space of two nights.

“This report shows that cities can achieve what was once thought impossible: cutting toxic air pollution by 20-45% in a little over a decade,” said Cecilia Vaca Jones, executive director of Breathe Cities, one of the organisations behind the report. “This isn’t just happening in one corner of the world; from Warsaw to Bangkok, cities are proving that we have the tools to solve this crisis right now.”

Significantly, the vote gathered support not only from left-leaning groups but also from the majority of the European People's Party, the largest and most powerful center-right bloc in the European Parliament. The center-right support drew sharp criticism from the far right: the Patriots for Europe group, which includes Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz and French far-right leader Marine Le Pen's National Rally, voted against the resolution and denounced its exclusion from negotiations over the text. The European Conservatives and Reformists, the group of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's Fratelli d'Italia, also voted against. But their combined opposition was not enough to block the resolution, which passed with support from a broad cross-ideological majority.

Cardiff University's Dr Lucy Bennett put it well in that same piece: "Once taste is turned into a scoreboard with ratings, competition then inevitably follows." Which, yes — but I'd push that further. Competition doesn't just follow. It replaces something. In the war to protect a number, the actual shows get swallowed whole. Nobody in these review threads is talking about what made "Ozymandias" so devastating, or what any of these subsequent shows did differently. They’re just defending territory. The number had stopped being a representation of the thing and had become the thing itself.

+ Marvel Comics has the optimisation sickness.

Word: Egregore

18 Mar 2026 03:02 pm

Wednesday's word is...

...egregore

An egregore is a non-physical entity or thought-form created and sustained by the collective thoughts, emotions, and attention of a group of people.

Origins and Etymology

The term "egregore" comes from the French égrégore, derived from the Ancient Greek egrēgoros, meaning "wakeful" or "watcher". Historically, it referred to angelic beings known as "watchers" in the apocryphal Book of Enoch. In modern esoteric and occult traditions, the term evolved to describe a collective psychic or spiritual entity generated by the shared focus of a group.

An egregore is not merely symbolic; it is considered to have a form of independent existence, influencing the thoughts, behaviors, and emotions of the group that created it. It can arise intentionally, through rituals or focused visualization, or unintentionally, through repeated collective attention. The more energy, devotion, or attention a group invests, the stronger and more autonomous the egregore becomes.

Film the collective most wanted to see together but missed was Queer as Punk, 2025, which I mention because some of you might also be interested in a queer Malaysian punk movie.

Film: All That's Left of You, 2025, is an unexpectedly gentle and also thoughtful film about a Palestinian man and his family, told episodically from 1948 to 2022. I usually resent any film over the 2hr mark but this deserved and filled the 2hrs 25mins it took to tell these stories. The cinematography is decidedly beautiful, with Palestinian lives and homes being lit in warm colours. I hadn't read any spoilers so I'd no idea where these stories were heading beyond forwards in time from the Nakba through the First Intifada, and I was surprised by the later themes which I thought were extremely well handled despite their difficulties. An aspect of the film-making that drew my attention very early on were casting decisions for the two occasions during which we see close-ups of members of the Israeli military being abusive, when the actors chosen looked as much like the Palestinian lead as possible, so the first could have been his brother and the second a close cousin (a more diverse population was shown but the casting in these two incidents was clearly intentional).
Conclusion: I recommend watching All That's Left of You if you enjoy heartfelt family-themed films (also rated 12A - about PG-13 - despite the surrounding violence [/ reminder that European film ratings tend to be higher for violence (and lower for sex) than US ratings ]). 5/5

Film: Colours of Time / La Venue de l'avenir, 2025, is a lightweight middle-of-the-road French film exploring recent history through the lens of one family, and was clearly sponsored by the Normandy tourist authority (and good for them!). The casting suited the plot as well as the characters, the lighting was good, and all the very mainstream music - from acoustic to electronic dance - was spot on. Cliches are racked up constantly, but each is well done and forgivable (except possibly Monmartre as a romantic pre-suburb village, which was wholly unnecessary nostalgia that didn't rly work as commentary on the present and was balanced by the equally saccharine Ooo They've Got Electricity scene). The Obligatory Pride in French Arts Culture is offset by making it mildly amusing. Beekeeping featured as the vaguest form of token environmentalism. There is the most improbably upbeat and escapist take on teaching as a career. Warning for the usual pervasive French misogyny, albeit dialled down as this is intended to be a sweet story. Nonetheless I noticed the Stressed Businesswoman Who Just Needs a "Date" trope, and although the Women's Magazine Culture is Lol Lowbrow trope was offset by humour, there was also Historical Women Were All Sex-Workers. Also warning for glamourised recreational drug-taking. The best laugh line was "I got hit on by Victor Hugo!" and I'm absolutely not going to spoil the context, although for balance there was also a dreadful pun about cat/chat room filters.
Themes: family, love, nostalgic history. 5/5

Film: The Blue Trail / O Último Azul, 2025, is a Brazilian film, that I saw with the original soundtrack and subtitles (there seems to be a terrible dubbed trailer about too?). In a near-future dystopia, 80 year old people are bussed away to a "colony" for old people so they don't impair the economic activity of younger people... according to pervasive government messaging. Unfortunately for the protagonist, Tereza, the age limit is lowered to 77 only a few weeks before her 77th birthday. She is mandatorily retired from her job at an alligator processing factory (warning for animal death and dismemberment) and sent home to her small shack to await the inevitable. However, Tereza has other ideas and decides to flee in pursuit of her desire to fly. Along the way she meets a drug-taking riverboat courier who shows her a wild snail that excretes blue "drool" which induces visions in humans when used as eyedrops. Various snitches try to turn her in to the authorities, and her dream of flying crashes. But Tereza meets another riverboat traveller, on the rainbow-coloured Caridad (Charity - aka loving kindness), who might have an alternative dream for our heroine. But what will the visionary wild snail reveal about this, and how much will Tereza's renewed life cost her and the animals she inevitably continues to exploit (more warnings for animal death)?
Themes: exploitation, of people and animals and the environment; but also love and redemption (which has its price, like all redemption). Possible lesbian and/or female friendship themes but these are choose your own adventure interpretations.
Conclusion: beautiful, disjointed, occasionally upsetting, and partially individually redemptive. 4/5

What I read

Finished Victoria's Secret - still slightly meh about it - could possibly have engaged a bit with a longer history of 'Monarch has favourite/s who are not Quite Our Sort', even if historically the gender issues in play here were different??? Also had a bit of feeling that QV was not entirely NOT treating John Brown in the light of A Very Large Faithful Dog devoted to her to which she was also devoted and which she insisted on imposing upon people who hated dogs.... Thought it was good on her awful childhood, though.

Clare Pollard, The Modern Fairies (2024) - telling stories about women telling stories, i.e. the precieuses at the time of Louis XIV, the stories they were telling and their stories and how those reflected one another.

Susan Ertz, Woman Alive (1935), my attention having been drawn towards it by a mention of its having been republished. I have a copy of the first edition, Ertz being one of the early C20th middlebrow women novelists in whom I have had an interest going back decades, but not sure whether I ever actually read this. It is sf Of The Period, in which someone is cast forward into The Future by sciento-psychic means, this is his account. And okay, is not (unlike a cluster from around the same time) about the dystopic crushing iron heel of fascistic misogyny, is about the dysoptic outcome of a war in which germ warfare has killed all the women. Except one who has survived courtesy of mad scientist neighbour's experimental process.

Points for her being a young women of education, character, and something of a backstory conveying a certain cynicism, but she still concedes to the agenda of marrying and going forth and having babbyz, though I think everyone is a bit optimistic that she will pop out multiple daughters and even so, we do not think this will Save Humanity. (Also, no-one seems to suggest she should have Plurality of Mates, surely that would be advisable?) But then it just stops with our narrator pinging back to his present day.

Most recent Literary Review

Muriel Spark, A Far Cry from Kensington (1988), which I really enjoyed and am now looking out for more of hers - think I have copies of some somewhere?

Robert Barnard, Death of a Literary Widow (1979)- everybody in it is a bit of a caricature, not just the American academic.

Emily Tesh, The Incandescent (2025), because I have been hearing well of it. Pretty good, but is it just having Read A Lot that made one character look like a honking parade of red flags?

On the go

I think I am actually giving up on I Am A Woman, I don't think Being A Sad Lesbian is enough to provide a rounded character? Maybe it gets better?

Nibbling at various things. Realise that it is 2 weeks to next Pilgrimage discussion and I do not want to read Honeycomb too far in advance.

Up next

No idea.

The Secrets of Story: Innovative Tools for Perfecting Your Fiction and Captivating Readers by Matt Bird

A how-to-write book. Despite the title, mostly for TV and movie writers, down to and including explaining that a prose writer has it easier.

Nevertheless, some useful ideas, particularly about irony, such as the character's flaw should be a flip-side of a strength to add reason to not want to fix it. None of the jargon was impenetrable.

Just finished: Indigenous Ingenuity: A Celebration of Traditional North American Knowledge by Deidre Havrelock and Edward Kay. This is worth a read but also I wanted it to be better than it was. My main issue was the tone of condescension cloaked in breathless wonderment towards its young audience and precolonial Indigenous peoples, which I honestly do not think is intentional on the part of the writers and more a factor of how people think that children ought to be spoken to. My second issue had to do with the ending, which focused on ecological technologies and suddenly jumped forward to present day Indigenous Nations working with governments to create sustainable ecosystems. Very cool, but because of the book's structure and emphasis on precolonial technologies, it made it seem like Indigenous societies today are only working in that field. (This is not remotely true! If the section on communication technology had, for example, included a jump forward to discuss the Skobot, I'd have been fine with this aspect.) But also, it described things like carbon trading fairly uncritically, when in fact while carbon trading is better than carbonmaxxing like our current overlords are doing, it's a fairly useless system that greenwashes the omnicidal criminal corporations turning our world into a burning hellscape. So if the book is inaccurate about this, what else is it inaccurate about?

Beowulf translated by Francis B. Gummere. It's Beowulf. This is the less fun translation, albeit the one I'm more familiar with, because my hold on the Headley one didn't come in on time. We can discuss whether or not it's the most metal of all historical epics.

Currently reading: To Ride a Rising Storm by Moniquill Blackgoose. Speaking of Scandinavian-influenced epics. This is the sequel to To Shape a Dragon's Breath, which as you might recall broke all the way through my general dislike of YA to be one of my favourite books of the year. So far I am binging this and it's excellent. Our heroine, Anequs, wants nothing more than to get through her time at Kuiper's Academy, get licensed to ride her dragon, and return to her people on Masquapaug permanently, preferably with her two love interests, Theod and Liberty. But now the Anglish have set up a presence on the island and she's increasingly being drawn into shitty white-people politics that she wants nothing to do with.

This introduces a whack of new characters and factions. There's a Jewish character, Jadzia (Blackgoose, you fuckin' nerd lol), who I adore, and a secret society called the Disorder of the Grinning Teeth, which is the name of my new black metal band. There's also a new teacher whose name escapes me but who provides an interesting contrast in pedagogy from the first book. I should add that this is very much a magical boarding school story and not a residential school story, so it's very cool to see the idea of colonial educational institutions that could, theoretically, be reformed and democratized rather than needing to be closed and having the people who run them thrown in Forever Jail.

Also the dragons are cool.

Dear Prudence,

I’m a 21-year-old college student living in a house with five other students. There are three women and three men. We’re having an issue keeping our kitchen clean, and I am the only one who consistently cleans. I keep the floors and counters clean, wash the piles of dishes in the sink, wash dish towels, etc. Anytime I’ve asked people to chip in, they never follow through. I’ve tried not doing the cleaning, but then the kitchen gets disgusting and I end up caving.

I’m not completely innocent when it comes to not always washing my dishes immediately and being messy, but I feel like I clean more often than anyone else. A general chore chart doesn’t work, and I am tired of feeling like my roommate’s mother. How can I get them to take some initiative and do more of the heavy lifting that always falls on me?

Nominations Questions 1

siderealdei: (Default)
[personal profile] siderealdei posting in [community profile] vforvictoryexchange
Thank you everyone for all the nominations! A few things to clear up:

First, for the relationships tagset, there are two main reasons why nominations haven't been accepted yet:
1) You haven't disambiguated your ships. Please put the fandom or a short form of it in parentheses after you've listed the ship and hinge.
For example:
Luo Binghe/Original Luo Binghe/Shen Yuan | Shen Qingqiu (hinge Shen Yuan) (SVSSS)

2) You haven't specified a hinge. Remember that you CAN specify Any.

Other Relationship Tagset Questions:
Detective Conan nominator, by 'Female Character' do you mean Original Female Character or do you mean Any (canonical) Female Character?

Widow/Her First Wife Back From the Dead/Her Second Wife (F/F/F) nominator, you don't need the (F/F/F) since the genders are baked into the tag; you do however need the hinge and (OW) at the end of the tag.

Now, for the Freeforms Tagset:
If your tag hasn't been accepted, it is probably because it doesn't have a prefix attached to it (ie, Scenario, Relationship, Omegaverse, etc.). The reason for the prefixes is to help make the tagset easier to browse. If you're not sure what prefix to attach, feel free to workshop it with people or post here in the replies for assistance.

Other Freeform Tagset Question:
Nominator of "Scenario - B is hinge for A and C; D also confesses love for A and C and the group becomes a foursome" - because of the nature of the ships getting approved, I can't guarantee that you will match with Character D to whoever is assigned to write for you. Also, I'm not sure this tag prompt is fully in the nature of the exchange given that this is about V-shaped polyamory permutations, but I'll admit I'm not one hundred percent sure about this, so I'm willing to be convinced. Please comment below or email the modmail with your thoughts on both concerns, thank you!

Happy nominating!

... resulting from making that vid this past week.

One thing that I was thinking about is the sheer challenge of costuming this show, because most of the costumes are directly patterned after their manga/anime looks. So whereas most of the time in most shows, you can probably source the characters' everyday wear from basic mass-produced clothes or even vintage or secondhand shops, aside from really specific superhero costumes or whatever, this is more like a historical production in that everything has to be made from scratch. (Only, if possible, worse, because unless you're doing an unusual time period, normally you could probably go to the warehouses of Elizabethan or Regency costumes or Roman togas that no doubt exist.)

Here, even the relatively normal clothes are directly echoing something specific, like the patterns on
season 2 character'sTashigi's
distinctive shirt, or
another season 2 character'sMiss Valentine's lemon-patterned
dress.

Anyway, it's just interesting to think about. Even the simplest costumes are more complicated than they seem, because it's not just an unusual shirt that the costume people found at a vintage shop; they're having to explicitly pattern-match or color-match or style-match items from the manga and anime.

So this is apparently the latest installment in an accidental series about gardens. This is based off some bits in [archiveofourown.org profile] hauntinghouses's lovely post-canon fixit Out of the Woods (not necessary to read before this one, but you should read if you like Londo & G'Kar stuff; it's lovely, with some neat Narn worldbuilding), which was in turn inspired by one of my older ones. This is not meant to be in direct continuity with either hauntinghouses' fic or the other fic it was inspired by; it's off happily living its best life in its own AU 'verse.

Green Growing Things (Londo & G'Kar, 2800 wds)
It is post-canon, and there are gardens.

Summary: Without Lady Catherine's interference, a family catastrophe throws Darcy and Elizabeth down wildly different paths.

Reccer's Notes: This series is very much Darcy/Elizabeth, but they spend a lot of it going down separate paths. And on those separate paths, their closest relationships are with their siblings--Darcy and Georgiana, Jane and Elizabeth. I love the care that is taken with all of the different relationships in this story.

I have slightly more brain now and maybe enough energy to post more? Let's find out. I'm sure you've missed me posting about random video games.

Anyway, Slay the Spire 2, the sequel to my most favorite roguelike deckbuilder Slay the Spire came out in Early Access two weeks ago, and is apparently stunningly popular -- it had 500,000 concurrent players its first weekend, beating basically everything else on Steam at the time, which no one was really expecting from, you know, an indie card game.

I haven't played it enough to give a full review, because even in EA there is a lot more content -- there are five characters, two of which are brand new, all of which have new cards, and there are all sorts of new mechanics and events I haven't discovered yet. So far I have now beaten what exists of the game with four of the five characters and I know I haven't seen anywhere near everything yet. I think it's currently balanced harder than the original game, but the subreddit is full of people saying it is way too easy, so I guess we will see what happens when the balance patches start coming out.

But the really cool thing about this game is the multiplayer, which we only found out existed in a trailer that they released, like, two weeks before the actual game. It has co-op with up to four players! I only have one friend who plays this game, as far as I know -- [personal profile] gelishan, who actually introduced me to the original game -- and we played a game of it the other night, and I have to say that co-op is absolutely the most fun way to experience the game. It helps to be on voice chat, so you can coordinate things like 'who are we targeting first" or "if you have anything inflicting Vulnerable, please play that first" or "do you need this Strength Potion" or "do you want me to play Piercing Wail this turn so you don't take 35 damage straight to the face" or whatever, but I guess theoretically you could play it in silence and just deal with the fact that everyone is playing their turns simultaneously.

Anyway, that is clearly the way this game has always been meant to be played and I need to do this again at some point. The co-op multiplayer is absolutely amazing! I don't know that I would recommend the game in its current single-player state to people who haven't played the original, just because it is already a hard game and it helps to have some idea of how three of the five characters play, if you're going to play it by yourself. But if you are playing multiplayer, I think you can just go for it and you and your friends can take turns carrying each other through the game.

So, yeah, that's what I've been up to, as I slowly regain some brain. Slaying the Spire anew!

(Also it's really weird to actually talk to someone you have known on the internet for, like, 25 years, but you've never heard their voice before.)

Is it an omen?

So it’s time for the inevitable gig post about Waterparks.

First the tip there. I downloaded some books on the kindle app to read on the train but when I got on I found I utterly lacked the focus. Maybe in part due to early start or the drilling/sawing this morning but it wasn’t there. Then I got hit by random sadness which didn’t help either, coupled with anxiety which only grew.

In Birmingham I set out for food, checking a few places before deciding to give the new sushidog place a try. It’s basically subway only instead of a roll it’s a big sushi (roughly as long as my pad). I went for the tofu option and it was mostly good though there was something crunchy in it (Ithink crispy onions) that detracted from the taste. I dunno if I’ll have it again, we’ll see. But I was surprised there’s a reward app for it.

After a lil wander I went to the venue, anxiety rising and joined the queue. Thankfully there wasn’t long to wait but I didn’t feel like trying to distract by reading.

Inside I looked at merch, which was the same as the eu dates so there wasn’t much choice, I got the rainbow parx tee cause I had liked the look of it and will probably wear it for 5 Seconds Of Summer in two weeks.

There was only one support, Greywind and they were pretty good, I’d not heard them before and not sure I will again, but it’s nice to see a female fronted band.

After a little wait (and figuring out the wi-fi), it was time for Waterparks. (And I got a semi decent spot, albeit sometimes getting the view of Geoff and Awsten’s heads cut off when they came my side of the stage)

The show was split into four sections, each introduced by a guy on a screen (who I didn’t recognise) (and yes there was a screen, I’d not seen one at this venue before so thay was strange). The sections were happiness, sadness, anticipation (the new songs) and anger (Awsten’s favourite part according to the guy).

Happiness was fun cause it had a lot of spinning from Geoff which was cute. I love his lil spins so many. Sadness had a lil acoustic section, which included Crave, though most songs were shorter and not full ones, anticipation included the three new songs plus Prowler which seemed to go fast and was growly.

There were two song choices
Peach or Telephone (Peach won, so I got to hear him sing la la la lombotomy)
Gloom Boyd’s or Not Warriors (damnit I’d have loved to hear Not Warriors but alas it was Gloom Boys which was still fun)
There was gonna be a third, 21 questions or Lucky People, but Awsten went with Lucky People cause someone at the met and greet walked down the aisle to it which was sweet.
(I also half expected Anger to have Ice but it didn’t)

Memorable things that I can remember
*Awsten hyping up Geoff and Otto multiple times, especially Otto
*Awsten lasted three songs before clinging onto Geoff’s leg
*He told a story about something that ‘freaked him out’ a seagull eating a dead rat with a bloody beak, he took this as an omen, but couldn’t decide if it was good or bad (until he decided it meant a certain someone was going to die soon and we’d feast one him)
*Awsten remembered that Fandom live was filmed there (i need it so bad damnit), he remembered the venue cause of the gold stuff on the balconies specifically cause the venue name had changed
*He was repeatedly apologetic for the last tour being three years ago, saying there would be a new one soon as soon as the album comes out (which is ‘soon’
*he also repeatedly thanked us for showing up and he was glad to do a tour without just playing a new album

They always know how to but on a great show and Awsten is a natural talent. He’s just so funny and a yapper so it makes it feel… I dunno, it’s nice. It’s fun. Plus it was a great line up of songs (alas no Fruit Roll Ups) which were from all of the bands eras. And I liked the concept of making the sections themed around an emotion that was a nice idea.

(I was a bit sad to see Thrice are playing at the same venue tomorrow, but then they’re probably playing the newer stuff I’ve not heard)

After the show I raced to the station but missed a train by a few minutes (thankfully not the last one). So I grabbed a drink and some sushi and waited for it. On the train back I did read the intro chapter of one of the books, Strange Pictures, but that’s it.

Gonna rest up now and might make another post in a few days. It might be the music stuff I love post, since I wanna post music stuff anyway so may as well do it for that, or maybe I’ll work on fic, who knows. Mainly I’ll likely be sidetracked by pokopia,

Mohs procedure (making sure they remove all the skin cancer) done today. Had to get up hours earlier than normal, before sunrise, in order to get there at 7:45am ... and got back at like 1:50pm. Two hours of that was waiting for pathology.

The procedure was done with local anesthesia but that wore off mid afternoon. Things hurt now. They don't even give good drugs, just suggest alternating Tylenol and ibuprofen, both in otc form.

Am very tired right now.

I am back from Montreal. The trip home had some annoying delays while they found us an airplane, or figured out how to tow the one they had, or something, but was otherwise fine.

Rysmiel gave me a back rub last night that did significant good for the tension in my neck and right shoulder. I currently have an unrelated shoulder pain, from spending too much time poking at my phone while spending several hours at the airport, but if I'm somewhat cautious now that I'm home, that should take care of itself in a day or three.

I am catching up on some of the PT exercises I didn't do while traveling because they require elastics, or the foam roller, or weights, but doing all of them tonight would be imprudent.

  5. Bloods taken today do include a full blood count; alas no ferritin (that's scheduled for... May? April?) but I do get a sneaky extra update on how my estimated haemoglobin is doing.

After everything with the White Martians and his brother, Dinah is there

Not Alone

The next time J'onn woke, it was no longer Bruce with him, but Dinah. He closed his eyes once more, strangely loathe to have her be the one to see him this reduced.

He knew he would be just as bad with Arthur.

There was an unspoken bond between the three of them, the last of the five original that had faced the Appellaxian warriors, leading to the formation of the Justice League in its original incarnation. For one of them to be reduced nearly to destruction —

"You mean like when Arthur's entire world was brought down around his ears and we nearly lost him to grief-madness? Or when I got myself stupidly caught and died at least twice on the hospital table?"

He had to open his eyes, chagrin among his emotions as he realized the telepathic connection had not been shielded at all. She moved from the chair and got up in the recovery bed with him, careful of the tech monitoring his status.

"You were upset that neither of us reached out, that we locked you out of being able to help us then. And we got the point. We three, we have each other, among the many we've brought in since then.

"Let me in, and Arthur as soon as he gets free, so we can help you recover."

J'onn didn't trust his mind or his voice to express any of what he was feeling, but she reacted, bringing a hand up along one angular cheek as she settled her head on his shoulder.

"You're not broken. You had to make a very harsh, hateful call against a man you shared a genetic pattern with. And you did so at great cost to yourself.

"But you will heal. And we are with you the whole way."

1. Good things first: I updated my soap opera today. I got a lovely Saint Patrick's Day card from [personal profile] dine.

2. I went running today at the lake, but it was FREEZING and my time was as slow as the first of the year. :( On Sunday, I picked up Minor's prescriptions, three of them were $5 each and the epi pen was...$560! I didn't get it. I asked the doctor to send it to another pharmacy and will use a Good Rx coupon to try to get down to something more reasonable. Epi pen. Like the thing that prevents ANAPHYLAXIS. American healthcare, ladies and gentlemen.

And the boys' father changed our insurance. So we used to pay $50 for specialist visits, but now Minor's 20-minute visit to the allergist was...$311. I feel like I need a lie down and a cold compress and smelling salts every time I get a healthcare bill these days.

3. I had an awkward conversation at dinner last night and I came to realize that I have no idea how Minor's brain works, and after a long, long discussion trying to understand, many questions trying to tease out his logic, I still don't understand him. And he said some hurtful things among other things, I am 'a character' to him. :( I wish I were a character in my own fanfic! What a wonderful world that would be.

4. I have a new lady client on Thursday and Friday. We'll see how it goes.

5. Diet isn't working. I am trying to track my calories but failing. I got a year subscription to My Fitness Pal app so I can just scan the barcodes but I am not doing a good job of keeping up with it. The good thing about the diet is I have access to a web portal with Monday, Wednesday, Friday new 20 minute workouts with the Australian/New Zealand young lady screeching at you (not the British lady with the beautiful wife who runs the programme) and it is strangely motivating to do it and finish so she can rest her voice.

6. I got the Netflix (for BTS comback!) and watched Kpop Demon Hunters. It was okay. It was a bit too close to home at the portrayal of kpop fans for me. I feel SEEN and I don't want to be SEEN. But I didn't mind them poking fun at the 6-pack abs phenomenon among kpop idols.
