firecatI haven't kept up with 3 weeks for Dreamwidth. Today I'll do a bunch of the questions in the 21 question meme.
1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?
I was impressed by DW's commitment to support free speech and diversity statement. I wanted the opportunity to mirror my LJ. I liked the option of separating reading list and access list.
2. Why did you choose your journal name? What does it mean?
I've been using it as a nom de net for a long time. It comes from an image in my head of a panther in a lava tube. Later on I found out that firecat is another name for Red panda.
3. Do you use other blogging sites? Why or why not?
I use LiveJournal because I've used it a long time and I'm a permanent member. I use Facebook because that's the only place online I can interact with some of my friends, and because it's easy to do a microblog there. I use Twitter because I keep trying to figure out what it's for. I use Tumblr because I like the stream of pretty pictures, but I don't add much original content there.
4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?
E-mail, mailing lists, Usenet newsgroups, a daily collection of web sites (Cute Overload, I Can Haz Cheezburger, Maru, Goodreads, The Sweet fan forum, mashuptown.com
5. How about when you're not on the computer?
Read, go out with friends, family, and sweeties, watch DVDs with the OH, think about decluttering my house, think about restarting my knitting hobby
6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?
I find it hard to answer that question, which is why I haven't yet posted an "about me" sticky post. Y'all are free to ask any questions you might have about any of the stuff on my profile or in the contents of my journal.
7. What is your favourite community on Dreamwidth?
No particular one stands out. I like communities where people talk about disability, feminism, intersectionality, etc.
8. What is your philosophy on journal layouts?
Philosophy?
This is more preference and behavior than philosophy: I read everyone's journal in my own style, because I have a lot of trouble reading text that isn't black on white and that isn't in a large, simple font. I'm not crazy about the style/layout I came up with, but it works OK. I prefer a two-column layout.

It's a cheerful looking red panda. I swiped it from Cute Overload here.
