firecat: (lucifer with firey halo)
[personal profile] spook_me is a Halloween ficathon. You choose from a list of creatures (well, tropes really, since the creatures include stuff like "Disease" and "Weird West") and sign up with a fandom you'll write in. You receive two image prompts.

Deadline was October 26. I thought, what is better as a birthday present to myself than to write and post a Lucifer-in-the-Wild-West fic? Turned out one of the image prompts (included with my fic) was the spitting image of Mazikeen as a gunslinger (and white wings). Bonus links to two "Ghost Riders in the Sky" performances, one sung and one on piano.

Audiobooks
  • Diane Gabaldon, Outlander (Outlander #1). Narrated by Davina Porter. I got past the dubcon part that made me throw it across the room last time, and I’m still liking it. She creates interesting moral dilemmas for her characters. I could do without so much of the conflict being generated by someone throwing a tantrum over a misunderstanding that could be cleared up in one sentence.
TV/Movies
  • Blake's 7 (Britbox): I guess I'm the last person in the world to figure out that this is now available on streaming and probably the last person in the world who hasn't watched it. So I'm watching it. It's got all those cheesy BBC props that I love. And those cheesy British haircuts from the 70s. And the action is slow as molasses. And I'm enjoying the heck out of it.
  • Homecoming (Amazon Prime): This is about soldiers being treated for PTSD but Things Are Going Wrong™. It's stylistically really interesting, in ways that I have a hard time describing. For one thing, each episode has only about 20-25 minutes of action, and then a very long credits scene where there's still stuff happening but it doesn't really add to the plot, it just adds to the atmosphere. I watched the second season first—I got intrigued because Janelle Monae stars. She's a wonderful character. So I'm watching the first season spoiled as to what eventually happens, but it's fun to watch it happening.
  • Still watching Katla (Netflix) and rewatching Lucifer (Netflix).
Music:

For some reason while watching this video I kept thinking of this quote I picked up somewhere on the Internet in the 90s: "Most adolescents DO wise up after a few decades and realize they didn't personally invent sex, rebellion or criticism." (They also didn't invent strobing.) I mean, they're being bad boys (gender neutral term) so earnestly. Drinking beer in the car! Smashing a guitar! Using cassette tapes! SMOKING CIGARETTES! But I still really like it.
