Have I been watching too many bad skiffy movies?
The only researchers to publicly show that they have cloned a human embryo said on Tuesday that they had successfully repeated the experiment, growing an embryo to the 16-cell stage.
Researchers at Advanced Cell Technology of Worcester, Massachusetts, have also repeatedly created embryos using...parthenogenesis

It would take just 40 batches, or lines, of parthenote-generated stem cells to create tissue matches for 70 percent of the U.S. public, Lanza said. Embryonic stem cells are immortal, so it would not take many human eggs to create several dozen lines.

Date: 16 Dec 2003 04:44 pm (UTC)With the impending overpopulation and resource-scarcity we are likely to see in our lifetimes, I can't understand why we'd invest in making new people through cloning. Not in any significant numbers, I'd expect. I'd be more concerned about tissue harvesting as a fountain of youth/vitality.
