Knitting projects: one old, one new

Have Fun! Scarf by Sally Melville, The Knitting Experience, Book 1: The Knit Stitch
I finished this in 2005 but I got it out for a photo today because
auntysocial was talking about the book in question. I don't remember what needle size I used. I knit this from a bunch of different yarns I got at the Mendocino Wool & Fiber Festival in 2004. It’s knit sideways and self-fringing. I made the mistake of hanging it on a hanger, and it grew so now it’s over 10 feet long.

Regia Jacquard socks (two at once, top down on 2 circs)
(Finished last month)
Pattern: Boot Socks by Knit Picks Design Team
Size: custom
Needle: US 1 / 2.25 mm
Yarn: Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Jacquard Color 4-ply / 4-fädig
2 skeins = 460.0 yards (420.6m)
Color family: Blue
Acquired: as door prize, TKCS Oct 07
Notes
I wanted to make two socks at once on two circs, so I used the Boot Socks pattern from Knit Picks, which describes how to do that from the top down. But the yarn I used was fingering yarn (the Boot Socks pattern calls for worsted weight yarn). I used the book Sensational Knitted Socks to determine the number of stitches to cast on, and for the pattern I used a 4x4 rib. My calf/ankle are larger than my foot, so after I turned the heel, I decreased down to the next lower size.
This is the second pair of socks I’ve made using the “two at once” method. This time I found the method a lot easier to manage. There is a fair bit of fiddling involved after each row to prevent the two yarn balls from tangling, but this takes up less time than the fiddling I always have to do when I knit socks one at a time, because I lose count and they end up different sizes. I immediately cast on for another pair of two-at-once socks after finishing this pair.

Date: 9 Aug 2008 04:00 am (UTC)I just finished knitting two sleeves in the round (because I also wanted to make sure they were going to match) and it was actually much less tangly than I expected.
