31 Jan 2005 12:10 am1. What blood group are you?
O-
2. Do you give blood? Why/why not?
I never have. The first reason was that I tended to feel sick and faint when I even had enough for a blood test drawn, never mind a whole pint. Then I got over that, but I had slept with a bisexual man recently. Then a year had passed since I'd done that, and I tried to go give blood, but they wouldn't let me because I was anemic. It's vaguely on my to-do list to try to donate blood one of these days - before I get a tattoo (which will put me out of the running for another year).
3. Are you listed as an organ donor? Again, why/why not?
Yes, because once I'm dead I won't have any use for them, so someone else might as well have them. (Although when I think about this, I get grumpy because I imagine I probably wouldn't be considered a good candidate to receive a donated organ. It doesn't make me change my mind about donation, though, and probably wouldn't unless I were actually rejected as a candidate for an organ I needed.)
4. Would you donate an organ or other part of your body (eg bone marrow) while still alive?
I don't know. I have no philosophical objection, but I hate doctors and hospitals so it would be a significant stress on me, and so the reason would have to outweigh the stress. So I wouldn't do it for a stranger or for an organ or tissue bank, but I probably would do it for someone I cared a lot about. It's moot, though - I probably wouldn't be considered a good candidate for donation because of my size and health issues.
5. Would you consider leaving your body to medical science? Or maybe just parts of your body?
As
