firecatAs a result of the many recommendations in this thread for Iain M. Banks, specifically The Player of Games, I ordered it from the library.
I devoured it in several days, and would have taken less time about it if not for the deadline on the book I'm writing.
Some of the folks who recommended the book are game-players. I'm not and in fact I dislike most games. So that The Player of Games can appeal to both me and them seems like a pretty impressive achievement.
I see from re-reading the thread that he's written other books in this universe. I'm looking forward to reading them.
