...and I feel like a slightly proud parent, since I first met Glenn Fleischmann's writings on TidBITS, a Mac-specific newsletter distributed as setext.

But, he writes: After January 1, any record label can issue a dubstep version of the 1923 hit “Yes! We Have No Bananas,” and I thought that the parody exemption meant that was possible now?

Even as a creating person myself, I find the "author's death + 70 years" rule to be extreme. I mean, those grandchildren should perhaps find something else to live off and let the rest of us enjoy public domain works.
