Or as the Los Angeles activist Najee Ali told the Los Angeles Times, “That myth spread like wildfire on social media, but there was never a concentrated effort from leaders to dispel that myth.”
OMFG what? This is like how black voters didn't want to vote for Bernie because they were "uninformed" or confused, poor things.
I remember right before the pandemic hit that the horrifying statistics about the deaths of pregnant black women were actually being talked about in the media -- and surprise surprise, it turned out many black women had gone to their doctors or even the ER and been disbelieved and sent home, and many of them had died as a result. IIRC fewer black women are diagnosed with breast cancer, but more black women die from it than white women -- one paper concluded that black women are more likely to get an aggressive form of cancer that often returns. Yes but why is that? Like the article says -- "too many politicians and commentators are noting that black people have more underlying medical conditions but, crucially, they’re not explaining why."

I didn't suspect I had it either until the anosmia symptom got some notice, and I went through all the various lists of all my current and former meds and, nope, not a listed possible, then had doctor double-check. Not a symptom I've had before, either. But one I definitely had for about a week. By then (~6 weeks later), I'd cleared the virus, so no existing antibody test would have worked.
It'd be nice to get an antibody test that works on antibodies I actually have while I still have them.
