One to-do item accomplished

The lazy person’s way to check items off your to-do list:

My house phone wasn‘t working. When one called it, one got a busy signal. Standard troubleshooting methods didn’t yield any results. I put an item on my to-do list to call the provider, then I switched to voicemail in the cloud. I was able to receive messages that way.

Several years pass…

Today my housekeeper is here and I hear a phone ringing. I think it’s her phone, but she doesn’t pick up and then I realize it’s my house phone. My answering machine still works. I haven’t changed the outgoing message since Aahz left. 😿

One to-do item accomplished!

Yeah there are these little gotchas. It starts out that everything is a gotcha and then they happen less often, but still sometimes.

Our phones line broke but, because it affected our internet connection -- when someone rang the number the DSL connection dropped -- i had to fix it. But i loved the silence: we had been bombarded by spam calls and the absence of meaningless phone ringing was such a relief. I don't know if we would have repaired it if the DSL hasn't been affected.

We think the base station for our phones was fried in whatever event broke things, so we now have a new base station that can screen calls for us. I love the silence and knowing that when the phone rings it's a real person (or the robot from the pharmacy, whose number is in the allow list).

Yeah, we got this phone line thru our Internet provider and we added spam-blocking to it. That reduced the spam calls from several per day to one or two per week.
