Social networking meets Sorcerer's Apprentice

I am a member of Goodreads.com (my username there is firecat). They recently added a feature where they show you a list of some of the people that the people you have designated as friends have designated as friends and let you decide whether to add them to your list of friends.

This is all very fine and dandy, but if I had known they would do this, I would not have signed up as a "friend" of Neil Gaiman, who has 1840 people in his list. Now I know the usernames of a great many of them.
