1. Did you have a cell and/or mobile phone prior to your thirties? Did they exist?
People I knew started using them when I was in my mid-30s. I don't remember exactly when I got my first one.

2. Did you have cable when you were a little kid? When did you first get cable?
There was no cable when I was a little kid. And you know, I've never had cable per se. I had Dish for a while, so I guess that counts. I got that in the late 90s.

3. Do you know what 8-track tapes are and did you ever own an 8-track tape player?
Yes and no.

4. Did you own cassette tapes and walkman or tape player in high school and college university?
In high school I had a slightly smaller than shoebox sized cassette player that I used to record Monty Python episodes and sometimes stuff off the radio. In college I had a tape deck. I worked at the college radio station and made mix tapes there. I also had cassette players in my cars. Throughout the 90s I listened to books on tape while commuting. I think I had either a Walkman or a portable CD player for a short time in the early 2000s before I got an iPod.

5. When did you get your first DVD player?
Very late. I went through a laserdisc phase first.

6. Did you learn how to type on a typewriter? Did you own a typewriter growing up?
Yup. My mom refurbished her typewriter for me, a manual Olivetti from the 1940s that came in a case with a handle but weighed around 30 pounds so you didn't exactly want to port it anywhere. I used it to write journal-type stuff throughout high school.

7. What was the first computer you owned?
A 128K Mac purchased in February 1984.

8. When did you first get email?
When I went to work for Apple in 1988.

9. When did you first encounter the internet?
Jon Singer introduced me to Usenet in 1991.

10. When did you start using Facebook, Twitter, and Dreamwidth, and Livejournal?
In order of joining:
LJ: 2001
Facebook: 2007
Dreamwidth: 2009
Twitter: 2009

11. What was your first cell mobile phone? Have you ever owned a smartphone?
Don't remember what my first cell phone was. As for smartphones, I had an Android first and now I have an iPhone.

12. What was the first printer and the paper that you used when you got your very first computer? Could your first printer print photos?
My first printer was an ImageWriter, a B&W dot matrix that printed on regular paper. Never mind whether the printer could print photos, the computer couldn't even display photos.

13. When you were in college/university, freshman and sophomore years, did you type on a computer or type-writer?
Electric typewriter that would set off local seismograph sensors whenever I typed on it.

14. When did you start using streaming?
When Netflix first began offering streaming, it was free to people who subscribed to its DVD plans, so that's how video streaming came into my life.

15. When did you get your first MP3 Player? Do you even own one?
I got my first iPod in 2005. I still have it and it still works.

16. Did you own a record player, cassette player, CD player or MP3 player as a kid or teen?
As a teen I had a record player, portable cassette player, and (late teens) tape deck; CDs and MP3s did not exist.

17. When did you start blogging on the internet?
Late 90s, if uploading ranty essays to my web site counts. LJ was my first "official" blog.

18. E-book reader -- when did you get one?
I don't have a dedicated ebook reader. I've been using my smartphone and iPad for ebooks since I first bought them.

19. How do you listen to music? On what devices?
via iTunes on my desktop computer and on my iPod/iPhone.
