Kerry Woos Nader... (New York Times, free registration required)

Will someone PLEASE reassure me that Kerry isn't going to pick Nader as his running mate. As much as I hate Bush's government, I can't say I'm much more thrilled with the idea of Nader becoming president in the event that something happens to Kerry.

Yes, I plan to vote for Kerry anyway.

Say what you want about John Kerry, but he's a pragmatic. He is NOT going to choose as a running mate someone who he knows would not actually be a good president. Not to mention that there's no way those two would actually get along. There's no chance. None. *McCain* is more likely, and his chances are about null.

Removing the left split

Nader needs to endorse Kerry so that the left split that happened in 2000 doesn't happen again.

He needs McCain as well, in order to appeal to the more centrist, left-leaning parts of the the Republican party. That's why Bush picked Powell, and why Powell is doing what he can to distance himself right now.

I'm sure he won't. But it's a good sign they're talking. The green party could be made to feel a lot more included by Kerry.

Nah, not a chance. I think he's just doing some fence-mending to try to ensure that Nader won't be spoiling any elections (not that I think that's happening this time).

The key swing states in November are going to be places like Michigan, Ohio and Florida, none of them exactly Nader strongholds. Look for a *very* mainstream running-mate, possibly with southern roots. John Edwards, anyone?

Not for vice president; cabinet maybe. womzilla has an interesting idea: Nader lives in Connecticut. He should run against Lieberman in '06. At this point he's no less of a Democrat than Lieberman.

no chance whatsoever, i'd say. it's just gonna go the usual (boring) way; he's gonna pick somebody the dems consider solid, somebody southern probably. and his meeting with nader seemed to be designed to underline common ground. a nader who likes the democratic candidate (but not the republican one) is a much better nader to have run against one.

me, i'd prefer to see nader as president than bush, by a large margin. nader wouldn't be a danger to everything i hold dear, no matter what faults he might have. i don't actually quite understand the antipathy. nader doesn't scare me. pseudo-democrats like lieberman, those are people i very seriously hope don't become president.

I'd prefer that too, but I'm really uncomfortable with Nader, although I'm not sure I can put the reasons into words at the moment.

My words for my discomfort with him run like this:

1) No experience in government.

2) Anti-Jewish sentiments.

3) Tendency to gross arrogance and ignorance.
