An earthquake occurred at 17:19:06 (UTC) on Tuesday, September 28, 2004. The magnitude ? (uncertain or not yet determined) event has been located in CENTRAL CALIFORNIA. The hypocentral depth was estimated to be 9 km ( 5 miles). (This is a computer-generated message -- this event has not yet been reviewed by a seismologist.)

First time I've seen one posted without a magnitude attached. Maybe it takes time to calculate? Hrm...

Me too! I felt a little woozy and rocky and then noticed that some necklaces and other hanging objects in the room were swaying as well. Now to find the USGS earthquake page ... oh OK, I guess it's one of the famous Parkfield earthquakes.

6.0, centered down around Parkfield, which is pretty far south, about the same latitude as Porterville, in the coast range, about halfway between 101 and I-5.

She wasn't around at the time, but she seems fine now. The last time I felt an earthquake, she didn't seem to notice. She was on the bed; maybe she thought one of us was bouncing on the bed.

I haven't done any putty-and-anchor. But I don't have any bookshelves facing the bed.

I am visiting in Alameda this week next to the Encinal Basin. I didn't feel it, but my cow orkers on the third floor felt it distinctly.
