DVD/movie quiz
11 May 2005 01:43 pmBecause
indyansel made me.
1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
About 10 feet of bookshelf space's worth
2) The last film I bought:
I bought several items:
Porco Rosso
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind
Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban
Harold & Maude (for a friend who had never seen it)
3) The last film I watched:
Porco Rosso. Loved it! (Of course - it's Miyazaki.) Loved it despite Disney's making up a bunch of dialogue that wasn't really in there, and then making the subtitles match their dialogue rather than the Japanese dialogue.
4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
Harold & Maude (I'm going to write a post about this soon)
2001: A Space Odyssey (I saw it with my dad in the theater when it first came out. It just stuck with me. In a way, it's a little glimpse inside my personality, but if you don't know me, that will give you a wrong idea. It's a little glimpse into why I read science fiction. And it's got cool music.)
Wings of Desire (Der Himmel Über Berlin) (The first time I watched it, I didn't like it much. But I felt compelled to see it again, and I liked it much better the second and subsequent times. My "spiritual philosophy" for lack of a better term has a lot in common with this movie.)
My Neighbor Totoro (Essentially my introduction to anime. Disney films and fairy tales never really "took" for me, when I was a kid. So watching this film with its gentle childlike optimism was basically my first time experiencing something that I think a lot of folks get out of watching Disney films.)
Tampopo (This is just a movie I find myself wanting to share with everybody. It's fun, it's silly, it's a great sendup of at least a dozen different film genres, both Japanese and American, it makes you hungry for noodles...)
