I don't recognize most of the top 100 songs from my birth year (1961 - I'd like to see you do better), so I like this top 100 songs meme better.

[livejournal.com profile] kshandra memes:
Go to musicoutfitters.com, and do a search on the most popular 100 songs from the year you graduated high school. (You can do this by searching on the year you graduated). Bold the ones you actually like. (Understand that the word "like" in this case means, in the very least, "wouldn't immediately change the radio station from.") Pick a favorite. Underline that favorite. And strikethrough the ones you loathe.

New wrinkle: Italicize the ones you consider to be guilty pleasures.
(Note, I'm too lazy to feel guilty about my musical tastes, so I didn't italicize any...but there are songs I both like and loathe. I did bold and strikethrough for those. I also underlined more than one favorite, and "PTUI'd" ones I especially loathe.)

Also note that I am terrible at remembering songs by title. I had to look up a lot of these on iTunes, and it didn't have some of them, so I don't know if I like them or not. I also don't remember having heard some of them.

Makin' It, David Naughton (don't remember this)

The theme-song (and lead actor) from a very short-lived TV series that was trying to capitalize on Saturday Night Fever mania. (I actually kinda liked the show....)

Rise, Herb Alpert (don't remember this)

Does it help if I mention it was an instrumental? Or by "looking things up" on iTunes do you mean you actually listened to a sample?

Interestingly, I remember most of the ones you don't. "Sad Eyes" was one of the quintessential 70's ballads. Of course, this isn't saying much for it.

I don't think I realized we were the same age. I remember a lot of the songs from our birth year (I think my mother kept playing a lot of that music through my childhood), and pretty much the same ones you do (plus a few more) from our graduation year.

I'd forgotten how highly partitioned my musical experience was in 1994. No radio-listening to speak of, new bands only by recommendation, and I successfully avoided almost all of the rap and boy groups and r&b-oid stuff. I think I know as many songs from your graduation year as I do from mine.

Hello! The Ogre told me about you and that you do work with the Peninsula Humane Society. So, I checked your LJ. Can I add you to my friends list? I would also love more details about adopting a new kitty. My kitty Dave died June 7, this year, and my heart longs to meet a new kitty.
