Seen in the comments on http://pandagon.net/2006/06/10/nice-guys-vs-ms-amanda-marcotte-exhibit-3/ :

Please don’t feed the evolutionary psychologists.

As for the subject of the thread, it seems very simple to me. No matter what your gender or sexual orientation, if you want to be feminist or pro-feminist and also get laid, make sure to choose sex partners you respect and consider your equals.

Perhaps it's only so simple because I'm old.

(a flippant reply)

This is a bit of a problem if nobody you'd consider an equal would actually go to bed with you.

Though that one also has a simple solution: not being an arrogant ass.

"The piece of shit at the center of the universe" -- Douglas Adams died too young. Who will write this book for us now? Oh wait...we still have Philip Roth.

But seriously, thanks for the link. Great discussion.

I liked this gem from the comments:

“Asshole” is the masculine form of “slut:” the term sex-deprived members of a gender will use to refer to non-sex-deprived members of that gender.

In other words, “girls only like assholes” is a tautology, at least given the definition of the terms as phrased by its adherents.

Note that this is very context-dependent and does not affect other usages of the term "asshole". But I think it's worth noting nonetheless.

I fed them, but I have a history of harsh critiques of threads and topics over at Pandagon.

wow, that comment thread is so much better than at the original article. i finally lost patience with that one. that hugo guy sure has a lot of clueless commentators, and he himself has a way to show support for both feminism and fat acceptance that rubs me somewhat wrong (those are the only two articles i read in his blog).

*puts pandagon on the reading list*.

if only blogs used better software, *sigh*. i cannot bring myself to become a regular participant in the greater blogosphere; it is too damn cumbersome.

i encourage him too to write NNTP blogging software. :) i do so wish somebody did that. i keep occasionally mentioning it to the *poing* -- i know that if i did it, zie would help (and few people know more about NNTP), but i just can't concentrate enough to pull it off; anything past a simple script is beyond me now.

Remind me of this in ... oh, a year or so? No time, no time, but I want it too.

My take - people who feel powerless in response to the world are unattractive, gender and orientation aside. That has nothing to do with being pro-feminist, but the straight guys who complain about not getting any play because they're "pro-feminist" are I think a) not actually feminist, sorry boys, and b) suffering not under their quasi-feminism but under their own complaint-oriented personalities.
