My parents have suddenly decided they want another dog (their dog Fritzie died last October). I think this is a good idea for them. They only like miniature schnauzers and they want a young adult male who has some training. Previously they have purchased dogs from breeders, but they seem also to be willing to consider a rescue dog this time. I'm not sure if they would insist on meeting the dog first. If so, the dog would have to be local because they don't have enough stamina to drive very far.

I know about petfinder.org and the San Jose Toy Breed Rescue group. We don't know the reputations of any breeders in California. Any thoughts or recommendations?

No criticism, but the line "they only like miniature schnauzers" made me laugh.

I'd google for Miniature Schnauzer clubs/associations in your area (or even for the national one). Usually those sorts of organizations have rescue resources, and often there are breeder members who may have young adult dogs available.
