I appreciate that she specifies that she starts with oudated or inaccruate textbooks. If everyone who did altered books used those, out of date bisuness/management books, or other books of little value[1], I'd find the concept much less squicky.

[1] There may be some value in some of these surviving for the historical record. But when there are at least 3 copies in every thrift store in America, I don't think that's a major concern. And the class of book I'm referring to is much more valuable, IMO, as a work of art.

oh the sacredness of books! At the library, we filled up dumpster after dumpster with books-books exhausted from long service with the public, outdated books, gifts not wanted, books whose owners could not bear to throw away, books donated for the sake of tax deductions.....and these were only the ones that did not go to the endless book sales. And the books the used bookstore would not buy. Take it to a thrift shop, the store's bookbuyer would say, they'll take anything. So I wonder, are there books that even the thrift store throws away? They sit on the shelves, wonderfully forlorn, saying, "at least the paper must be worth something."

You honor them by making altered books.
