I won't be able to change the comment-screen settings of my journal any time soon (I currently screen all comments except from people on my friends list) because I've been getting a lot of comment spam on old entries lately.
I haven't been getting comment spam. On http://www.livejournal.com/manage/settings/ I have "Minimize your journal's inclusion in search engine results" checked. Do you, too?
I've started getting about one a week to the same message, so I googled for the topic and found my LJ was near the top. I've just been deleting them while marking them as spam, but if I got lots, I'd change, too.
I doubt I'll ever stop screening anonymous comments, because part of why I'm doing it is that there isn't much point banning trolls (or even people who are sincerely advocating positions I find repugnant) if I don't screen anonymous comments.
I don't allow anonymous comments at all. To date, I've only had one comment spam that I know of, and that was more of a troll/astroturfer, now banned. And I post a fair amount of controversial political stuff, and I do so publicly. What kind of spam are you getting, IYDMMA?

It sucks, though.
