I find myself wanting to knit the Flyaway Free Jacket from Just One More Row. (I would link to JOMR but it's currently under construction.) It calls for bulky yarn and uses an unusual very open stitch.

My question is: What yarn would you recommend? It has to be bulky in volume and lightweight.

Here's one that was knit in Colinette Giotto.

Here's another one; this is two yarns held together and I'm not crazy about the fabric.

I like Colinette Point Five, although it is a thick and thin yarn that may not work with this particular stitch pattern. I also have some Himalaya Baby Yeti 3 Ply that I'm getting ready to play with and think would work nicely for this pattern, although it is apparently a super bulky.

Yeah, but I'm a dope. Baby Yeti is definitely not lightweight. I second the ribbon recommendation with the caveat that some of the nicest ribbons are also fairly pricey. Tahki makes a lovely hand-dyed rayon ribbon.

I take it you want wool rather than cotton or silk, something light?

I have a friend who loves this cotton bulky (http://www.fabulousyarn.com/bluesky_colorcotton.shtml) and I have a skein of this (http://www.aurorasilk.com/yarns_and_threads/naturally_dyed/spun_silk_thread/extra_bulky.html) silk bulky, in purple, of course.

Idunno but I wish you luck, it definitely needs a very light yarn, like a ribbon. Most cottons etc will be too heavy.

Morehouse Merino bulky. It's almost like roving, it's so lightly spun. Light and soft as a cloud.

Outrageously wonderful

I happen to have a thing for Great Adirondack yarns anyway, but I think this would look fantastic done in the pattern you mention and so far it's at an amazing price:
