I tried a new exercise class last night that I liked. It's mostly yoga with some Tai Chi and Pilates thrown in for good measure.

I have some really super awesome wool/silk yarn that is an absolute joy to knit with. It's a shame that it's so expensive and that the dyer is so insanely popular because otherwise I'd want a sweater from this stuff.

Also, Peaby continues to be a supercute cat of awesome.

The ramp on our van broke a couple of days ago. I played hooky from work today to take it to Mobility Systems. I didn't know if they'd be able to fix it - it's now 12 years old. Even though they have to order a part, they did a temp fix by welding it. Now, Guy, Betty and I have the option of going to the movies this weekend. A working vehicle is a very good thing.

Plum tree in the back yard has a butt-load of ripe fruit.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow and I actually got through my list of things to do at work before leaving. Which included reviewing two documents I only got for review today.

Our four month old Golden delights in stopping mid-way through a meal to trade on her small selection of 'tricks'- shake, lie down, high five- for a yummy reward.

(Yummy reward being a few bites of the kibble in the bowl she is eating out of already. I think she's actually just as interested in the interaction and approval.)

I have purple hair. In full sunlight I am the world's oldest anime kid.

Last night we were running an errand and saw a double decker human-powered vehicle leaving a local eatery. Probably one of the crews in town for the Da Vinci Days festival*. There appeared to be people playing jug band instruments involved.

a couple of days ago i took a cool sewing class in which i learned how to make a purse. so now i have a lovely handmade purple batik purse, lined with lavender cotton, that closes with a silver button patterned with leaves.

also - the teacher is an awesome, smart, fun, creative, fat woman who teaches a class aimed at building students' skills at adapting commercial patterns to their own bodies, and she welcomes plus-size students to that class.

I'm flying to Boston next week for the 10th Anniversary show of my favourite band (Freezepop)! Haven't seen them in person since April 2006 and I'm really looking forward to it. Am taking lots of presents :)

I'm getting a Behmor coffee roaster! Today! And I have permission to run home at 5:00 so I can pick it up, so long as I finish my paperwork after I get home!

(Okay, I have two - yes, two - other coffee roasters. But the Behmor roasts a lot of coffee. Up to a pound at a time! And once I get one (or maybe both) of the other roasters warranty-repaired, I'll be able to give away a[1] coffee roaster to someone.)

My dog and I had an appointment with a veterinary behaviourist today because of Summer's fear-aggression issues. She not only didn't recommend that I put my puppy-love down (unlike our regular vet), but she also provided constructive suggestions regarding a behaviour modification program, hope for the future, and confirmation of my opinions regarding how to adjust Summer's meds. Yay!

We're closing on a house for our little hippy commune this month...

She's on Xanax morning and evening, as well as Zoloft in the morning. The behaviourist said that she usually prefers Zoloft for separation anxiety and Paxil for fear aggression, but we're not going to switch right now, because of the time it would require without any meds in between.

Instead of using the Xanax every day, I'm going to wean her off it and only use it when something anxiety-provoking, like a trip to the vet, is on the schedule. It can interfere with short term memory, which would make the behaviour mod more difficult.

The new vet encouraged me to let Summer roam around the office today (with her muzzle on, which she doesn't mind), which is the first time that I haven't had to restrain Summer around people since she started acting out. She encouraged me to take Summer out to visit dog parks early in the morning to see if I can find dog people who would be more understanding of Summer's issues than the friends that have been trying to help me with her so far.

I was dreading this appointment, and took forever to put together videos for the vet to look at, but I'm feeling so positive now!

When I got home to KW this evening, my mother met the bus to take me home, and she'd brought my dog Willow with her. When Willow saw me, she was so excited she pulled the leash right from my mother's hand to get to me. It felt good to be missed. :)

Today I went swimming in the lake for the first time in many many years.

I brought the dog with me. He was not very interested, nosiree.

I ended up picking him up and carrying him out a bit, and then holding his head up so he could dog paddle back to shore without getting his nose wet.

I'm told that "poodle" comes from the german for "puddle hound", but I don't think this poodle has ever been in the water before.

I think he's forgiven me by now.

I got to dye yarn today! I just love working with the colors, finding out what happens when two colors meet, or what happens when you overdye. We went through about 35 skeins in today's dyeing. Happy Happy Color!

Right now I am reading a book called The Music Lesson by Victor Wooten (bass player extraordinaire) and it is so far very enjoyable.

In the first chapter he makes the point about how we learn a language within the first five years of our lives and we easily become masters of our language because 1) we are surrounded by others who speak it, and 2) because we practice it by constantly "jamming" with others all the time; we practice improvisizing language, expressing ourselves, with various people of all kinds and all levels of skill and ages.

So why do most musicians think it takes so very, very long to master Music, always thinking they are never good enough or that they belong in some skill level and thus cannot "jam" with other musicians in other levels?

If we could see being musical as a simple and honest thing, the simplest honest musical expressions can be gateways to profoundly freeing ourselves.
