My favorite (because I always thought so): GROUNDHOG DAY: Misanthropic creep exploits space/time anomaly to stalk coworker

The OH tells about a friend who was able to sum up any story in a sentence. He was challenged to sum up Dune and he said "Two gangs fight it out over the drug trade." There are a couple of other plot summaries of Dune in the comments to that post.

I've been thinking, for the last few days, of figuring out a wry description of Mao's Last Dancer: something about how a revolutionary Chinese dancer is seduced by homo capitalists and honey traps to defect to the United States, where his art becomes emptied of political meaning, and exists solely to be beautiful. That's not pithy like the ones you linked to, but it is, actually, what was going through my head as I was watching it.

Those are all utterly fabulous. Best summary of Groundhog Day EVAH. :-)

That's the best plot summer ever, that first one. Although the Dune one is pretty slick.

Here's an old favorite (not so much uncomfortable as off base) from a 1970s newspaper blurb:

"Hamlet: Murder and madness afflict the young prince of Denmark. An Olivier classic."

All true, but ....

These are awesome. I love the one for Blade Runner -- and then I got to the Blake's 7 one and laughed myself silly.

I actually like Blade Runner (except for the annoying "love story"). Mostly I like the visuals, the world Ridley Scott created, and the replicant characters. When it first came out -- before I saw it -- friends of mine criticized the film for being misogynist, and I can see how it would come across that way. But there's a lot of other stuff going on in the movie that appeals to me.
