Apropos to a discussion going on now (Gender Controversy at PantheaCon 2012 Linkspam), what if the description for a gender-nonconformist-excluding ritual, instead of reading "genetic women only" or "female-born women only," read "people who can't tolerate complexity only"?

If it said "genetic women only," I would ask them who was paying for the DNA testing for all the women who wanted to attend that ritual. I might also ask them for their definition of "genetic woman," but the larger point is that a lot of cisgendered people are sure that their genotypes match their phenotypes, without having direct evidence of that. Part of cisgender privilege is not being asked that question.

(I mean in the sense of "wow, there are pagans who still insist on cloaking their cis, het, gender-walled, this-way-or-the-highway biases in high-falutin idealisms about being pagan".)

I mean, I knew about the drama from the last PantheaCon, but I didn't know about this one. I'll be over here, repeatedly banging my head against a wall.

I cannot BELIEVE the level of transpanic seemingly intelligent and balanced people come out with. Ok, yes I can, because I have ventured onto the internet and even out the door once or twice - but that doesn't diminish my outrage. "But it would let male sexual predators into our safe space because all they have to do is dress like a woman!" Um. If you find that a man dressed in women's clothing shows up to take dirty pictures or troll the proceedings, then kick them out. Don't just tar everybody with that broad brush. Oh wait, that's actually not what you're worried about... you just don't want to let "strange" people into your comfy clique, or deal with the cognitive dissonance that comes from your simplistic way of thinking bumping up against the real world!

No...the OH and I were supposed to go on a trip for our anniversary, but we ended up canceling it due to illness.

Yes, I was a presenter on two arts and crafts workshops. I didn't get out much, missed all teh dramaz.

Janelle and I are the "Goblin Crafting Triumverate" (look for us next year if you go). We facilitate a craft and recruit an expert to talk on the subject. This year we did Runesticks and Ritual Cord making. Next year we're thinking astrological chart beading, personal sigils, and PA dutch hex making, but who knows what will be accepted and which experts will flake. Presenting is an interesting view into the underbelly, must say.
