I stopped reading at the beginning when it characterised all humans as "baying for blood". That's not my experience and I've never seen anyone I know do that.

I've certainly seen people receive credible* death threats (including me), on and off the internet, which is probably why the hyperbole of a "baying for blood" metaphor irritates me so much in the context of tutting at rude/bullying people for being rude/bullying. Hyperbolic metaphors like that flatten reality down into an unrealistic parity of threat (both incoming and outgoing). I wasn't grumping at you for linking to a post I'm sure many people would find interesting and even useful in some ways, obv (and I apologise to you if it felt that way, sorry).

I don't feel personally grumped at, and I see your point: when the article starts right out with a "howling mobs baying for blood" metaphor, it loses credibility because so many people wrongly use physical violence metaphors when they mean their fee-fees were hurt.

That aside, my impression was that the article is not just tutting at rudeness but is about group bullying that does sink to the level of outing, doxxing, and other behavior that causes people to fear for their lives and jobs. I think that's why the advice includes stuff like "don't cross privacy barriers" and "target institutions but don't target people". Most people know this stuff but I've seen otherwise sensible people get angry enough to forget.

I also liked that the graphic mentions the difference between punching up and punching down.

I wasn't conflating rudeness and bullying. That's why I listed them separately and complained about the flattening of "baying for blood". I've gone back and read it now and so I've seen that in addition to my first objection, the top right corner of the graphic also says people with less power are more likely to be bullies and bully successfully than people with more power, which is obvious rubbish. Someone has even pointed out that problem in comments two days ago and been ignored. It's an ill-thought through post with a problematic graphic that subtly reinforces hate-stereotypes against less powerful people who speak out against more powerful people imo.

Apropos of nothing, I saw the first link, and then started reading the first text paragraph and had some severe cognitive dissonance. "SPACESHIP DINOSAURS ARE OLD RELATIONSHIP ENERGY?!?!?!"
