"Why Is It Still Controversial to Call Trump a Racist?" by Ryan Bort in Rolling Stone
But for all of her talk about tax rates, universal healthcare and a Green New Deal to combat climate change, Ocasio-Cortez has mostly abstained from taking on the president directly. When Cooper asked her why, she explained that she treats Trump as more of a “symptom of a problem.” Part of this problem, she went on, is racism in America.

Symptom of the problem is ... yes. I had a moment the other day where I realized I'd had a breaking point with understanding how diseased my country is back in the 90s, but the teens have done nothing but ram that fact home.

It's still early here so I first read that as you complaining about Kids These Days, not about the current decade. :)

BWAHAHAHA!

HELL NO!

It's going to be the kids, with a hella lot of support from those of us who haven't lost our brains in the older gens, that pull our asses out of the fire.

That is some GOLD.

Right-wing media has been crying foul and tweeting pictures of the president taking selfies with black people to show he isn’t repulsed by them.

"Some of his best friends are black!"

It shouldn’t take a recording of Trump saying the n-word for America to accept that he’s racist.

Cue Chris Rock: "What do you have to do, shoot Medgar Evers?"

“Do you believe President Trump is a racist?”
Ocasio-Cortez could hardly believe the question. “Yeah,” she said, shaking her head. “No question.”
“How can you say that?” asked Cooper.

WHAT A WAY TO PUT IT. I mean, even if he wanted to be all Devil's Advocate about it, or encourage her to elaborate, why not something like "What do you base that on?" or "Why do you say that?" which aren't great, but HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT is just, oh, Jesus Christ, white dude, MUST YOU REALLY.

It certainly shouldn't take a young Representative to say what everyone else knows, but it looks like AOC has been successfully building her capital by being willing to say what everyone else knows and a lot of white folks are in denial about.

Not to mention that asking her about the racism of the President is going to take away from all the other policy positions she has because everyone will be entirely all a-flutter ith their own defenses of how racists are only those people itth torches shouting slogans.

She is. If you haven't listened to her Maddow interview, she hits one out of the park about "border security" and what people are doing in fear, and Rachael wisely gets out of the way and lets her go and demonstrate what the real consequences of Republican ideas about immigration are.
