The way the article has been framed, I can't tell if they're saying that porn is following the same path and travails that publishing has, or whether I should be raising an eyebrow at them and saying "you're not actually saying anything new, focus more on how this is accelerating what was already happening in the industry."

I hadn't really thought about it that way, but yeah.

It feels like it's trying to be a meditation on the gig economy and how the pandemic is driving me people to try sex work that wouldn't have otherwise done it had they stayed employed and not isolated and a piece about how porn, an industry that already operates on tight budgets and margins and is plagued by piracy, is having to adapt to restrictions that make most of their genre work impossible. Both of them are perfectly good focuses, but it seems to be smashing them together haphazardly.

Yeah you are absolutely right. Of course, "everything being smashed together haphazardly" kinda describes the state of the world right now, but we would like to use journalism to dissect out the individual bits, rather than have it just turn the blender on.
