I woke up with an earworm of this song. (Recent political events might have played a part in this.) I discovered it because it was in the soundtrack for Cloak & Dagger, and later it also turned up on Lucifer.
Joseph Angel has been a songwriter and backup singer for a while but this was the first release he soloed on. His voice is fucking gorgeous and his range is off the charts.
Alex da Kid (Alexander Grant) is a Jamaican-English musician and producer whose credits include the first Imagine Dragons album.
The lyrics are about cops killing Black people. Verse one is from the point of view of a Black person and verse two is from the point of a white person.
There’s no violence in the video, but there’s some dripping blood.
