Guardians Against Entropy
20 Jun 2023 06:02 pmSomeone on a fandom community commented that they spend hours maintaining their tbr/tbw lists and then would rather consume something they've already consumed than something new that's actually on one of the lists. That caused me to write the following comment.
Those of us who enjoy the hobby of maintaining lists need to step out of the shadows and proclaim that we love what we do. Maintaining lists is incredibly soothing! Nothing else gives you quite the same sense that you have created peace and order in this one little corner of the multiverse. There's no reason to hide where the real joy is and pretend that you're only doing it to facilitate actually reading/watching new things. We need a name for our hobby. Maybe Guardians Against Entropy.

Date: 23 Jun 2023 04:50 pm (UTC)But once upon a time I did see a post about how, if your favorite thing to do with beads was to pour them into your bed and roll in them, that was absolutely fine.
(I wouldn’t want to get out of bed barefoot if I did that, but otherwise, yeah!)

Date: 24 Jun 2023 06:29 am (UTC)Some days I just like to pull it out and... enjoy it, especially things like my flannel prints, my custom printed cotton, and my various types of silk. One thing currently distressing me is that I can't find my box of jewelry supplies, including my stash of semiprecious beads. I enjoy having them, even though I don't make much jewelry any more. Even my yarn has colors and textures that I enjoy, even in the skein.
I try not to get stuff that doesn't have at least an inkling of a project with it, but sometimes that project just evaporates.

Date: 23 Jun 2023 05:28 am (UTC)I support worldbuilding as a hobby. You don't have to do anything else with it to "justify" it. People build ships in bottles, there's nothing wrong with making a model planet if that makes you happy. So I also support other hobbies that are fun for their own sake, even if other folks think they're silly.
