The webzine Them reports that Good Omens and Our Flag Means Death shipfics are on top of AO3’s list of most popular ships, and heads the article with cute pix of Stede/Ed and Aziraphale.

It appears the count was conducted by pairing. I wonder where OFMD would be on the list if all the Izzy fics were included.

The article also mentions the author of the Potterverse unfavorably.

And it says that Kirk/Spock from the Star Trek movies were a new addition to the top pairings. REALLY?!

Well, if they mean AOS, most folks shipped Kirk/Bones there. However, there has been a resurgence in 'discovering' the other Star Treks due to the glut in market that has been the last few years of TV shows.

K/S was fairly popular but yeah, in movie fandom, K/Mc was more popular. For two reasons, I think:

1) Pine's Kirk and Urban's McCoy had a LOT of chemistry and a meet cute and a three-year friendship; in the movie, McCoy was Kirk's most important relationship.

2) Because Uhura was Spock's love interest and a lot of people are racist much of the K/S fandom viscerally hated upon Uhura in ways that I think and kind of hope turned off some of the fandom.

But yeah, as the movie has faded from thought and more prime!Universe shows have come out, including a meet cute for Kirk and Spock in SNW, Kirk/Spock has been having a resurgence.

Based on the squee that I kept seeing in 2023, those pairings sound right, and I'll bet the franchise rankings would shuffle significantly if we included all fics from any given franchise or series.

I agree that un-fixed Potterverse fics probably can go away, but I would want to know how many of those fics in the Potterverse are now people being spiteful and fix-it to the original.

There's not a single tag that fits it, because that would mean fandom has to agree on what the tag is, but most people doing salt and spitefic have at least one tag they use for it, I'm sure.
