My mother's sister in Florida passed away last week, and my parents want to adopt her miniature Schnauzer. My cousins in Florida are willing to arrange this, but none of us has any experience with it. Apparently there are services that will help transport an animal. Do you have experience with any such services? Do you recommend or dis-recommend any particular one? Tips/warnings?

The only experience I've had is shipping my cat from California to Vermont when I moved. I left him with my tenants for a few months, until I was settled and had a space for him. Then my friend (who was a vet's assistant) gave him a sedative, put him in a cat carrier, and sent him via the airline. I went to the airport to pick him up when the flight landed. It seemed to go pretty well. I think the sedative was a definite plus. Somewhere I still have the sticker they put on the carrier that said "LIVE ANIMAL!"
