I’m so angry at the Washington Post for refusing to endorse a candidate for US President this year. I want to cancel it.

Do you think I’m overreacting? I wouldn’t care normally but one of the candidates is a fascist.

If you subscribe to any major news media covering US National/global News, which one(s)? (Not the New York Times, The Economist, or The Guardian.) I’d consider a publication based nationally or internationally or a major city publication.

Comments in favor of the fascist will be deleted.

I need to browse this list, but someone brought up, on bsky, that non-profit news presses might be the way to effect change in a truly free press.

I think this is a good thing to do! Even if it's a temporary break this seems like a really important statement to make.

I am more of an erratic NPR giver but I saw a more news-oriented friend talking about subscribing to Pro Publica and that seems worth looking into.

Is there a city newspaper near you that's still hanging on?

ProPublica rocks. Mostly in-depth coverage, but that's been missing more and more from the other sources that are no longer worth our attentions.

I think that NPR is a good alternative for mainstream coverage. That's my main source of regular, daily sorts of news.

A new one I've seen around is 19th News (https://19thnews.org/), which started in 2020. https://19thnews.org/ "We’re an independent, nonprofit newsroom reporting on gender, politics and policy."

I don't have a handle on US news sources, but in general if I'm looking for international news (which for me includes the USA) I go to Al Jazeera.

Cancel away! Why not!

I usually go to NPR, or, to my shame, the Guardian. I'm trying to cut the G out though. NPR is ok.

HEAR, HEAR.

At this point I get my news from the political blog Lawyers, Guns and Money. Dunno if that helps you any at all.

You are absolutely not overreacting whatsoever. This was craven and cowardly of them.

Some time ago I read a journalism professor pointing out that the wire services (AP and Reuters) follow a much stricter standard for their reporting. Since then I've gone directly to them (online) for straight news and found them to be much much better.

Also, if you really want something more equivalent to the Post/Times etc, I think the Financial Times (FT) might be the best current option. I don't subscribe to them myself as they are pricey and I follow some of their best journalists independently, but my partner does.

No, not an overreaction at all, especially when it's "the owner clearly interfered in editorial because he was worried about repercussions if the fascist is elected."

I don't personally subscribe to any papers, but I'd believe that your closest metropolitan area should have one or two major papers that cover what you're looking for. Elsewhere on the Internet, I've seen people choosing the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Philadelphia Inquirer as their papers.

I appear to be lucky enough to have developed a good news-following network of social media friends, so I am usually aware of many large things through them.

The rest mostly comes from work and snippets of conversation and glancing at the headlines and so forth.
